lol, if they came with the same toyota hybrid warranty and were street legal, I would pay $30k for one
I'm wondering what the dash looks like. If they've nixed the iPad in the dash, I'm all ears. I mean: how much would you need the navigation system on a race track?
Until they discover they can install lights from a 1975 corolla and use the money saved to double the R&D budget for the entire race team.
It’s probably fair to say that every unusual design feature will be polarizing to some degree. I personally think they look and work awesomely! I just wish the rest of the front end were more like the regular Gen-4, and in particular, less black plastic wackiness. Toyota‘s designers are off on a weird design vibe when it comes to front grills...
I wish we could get a peek at the interior, suspension, traction pack(s) and under the hood. Thinking 24 Hours of Le Mans official website | ACO - Automobile Club de l'Oues translated to English automagically by Chromium
The various auto manufacturers all seem to be at it, trying to outdo each other, be leader of the (wacky) pack.
By PRIME's lights, do you mean the design of the headlights? I am care less about the design, but I would hate it if I have to replace it for some reason. It is way too expensive. If it last for the life of the car, then the functionality of the the headlight is by far the best headlight among all the cars I have owned in the past.
Yep, I love the look of the headlights. Was the first thing that made me even look at a Prius (not a deciding factor of course, but caught my eye). Do you mean replacing the bulbs?
More replacing the full headlight shell? Composite Headlamp - Toyota (81145-47800) | Toyota Parts Our 2010's are not chump change either (LED, per US level V): Headlamp Assembly - Toyota (81145-47221) | Toyota Parts Gone are the sealed-beam days, $20 apiece, and never got hazed-up lens:
NOP. You can't replace bulbs on those LED. It supposed to last the life of the car, but if it ever burns out, you have to replace the entire LED assembly. It will cost you $$$$, like @Mendel Leisk pointed on his link.
Prime front end rebuild video linked here. One of the big ticket items (biggest?) is noted to be the headlights: Front end rebuild | PriusChat
I don't hate or love the look of PRIME headlight, but I do love the brightness. PRIME is my first car with LED headlight. Although I don't do much nighttime driving anymore, with days getting extremely short in winter, my commute now requires headlights on. After driving PRIME for two years now, I can't drive our other cars at night that has regular halogen lamps. They are so dim in comparison.
If it's any consolation, my 2010 has LED headlights and I haven't had any issues yet.. If they ever failed, I'd probably get after market assemblies because like you said, $$$$
Looking at the link, even the OEM parts are coming down on price nicely. MSRP is the same but IIRC, the retail sales price was much higher two years ago when I bought my car.
