Anybody else having trouble finding a useable after market cabin filter? All tge ones I've tried are are trying to pass off the cabin filter for previous Prius models. Bosch, Wix, Microguard... the ones with vertical folds as opposed to the Prime which requires horizontal folds. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
The Toyota part number (87139-28020) for the cabin air filter is the same as the one for fourth-generation liftback Prius cars, so I assume the Japanese aftermarket filters I mentioned in March would work in the Prius Prime, too.
I bought some aftermarket carbon cabin filter for my yaris which I thought would work in the prime, well sorta... like above post, the pleats are 90° out of "phase" Carbon does a great job at eliminating outside odors. If you haint tried 'em yet you should! Cabins tend to concentrate/pressurize the odors. 2020 Toyota Prius Prime HYBRID Cabin Air Filter. K&N makes a washable (re-usable) cabin filter ($40 on Amazon or E-Bay). P/N VF2054 for the 2018 Prius Four. I believe it fits the 2017 Prius Prime as well.
If it fits in the case, the pleats angle shouldn't matter. Yeah, I changed my cabin filter on my PRIME at 30K maintenance but was not going to pay the ridiculous price for the OEM carbon filter. I ended up getting a regular (non-carbon) OEM cabin filter, but so far not noticing any difference from the carbon filter that was in before, I think I paid ~$18 for the OEM non-carbon filter, but I am going to try Yaris aftermarket one next time. Thanks for the info.
The problem with the Yaris filter is there is a vertical component in the filter tray that is perpendicular to the "ribs" so it squashes them and lessens efficiency. the red line points to the vertical component, the dimensions only fit it one way which is across the three red lines.
Oh, I see. I did not examine the tray component that well. Next time, I am going to look for an aftermarket one like in your posted Google search link.
yeap I been looking hard to tell, most sellers don't pay attention to detail and you end up getting the wrong thing. PITA 7 5/16" wide, 8 7/16" long 1 1/8" thick. K&N P/N 33-2485 will not work in the gen 4 Prius Four which requires the notch (shown for the VF2054 filter) that allows flexing of the filter so that it can be inserted in the filter tray. However, P/N VF2054 should work in the gen 4 Prius Prime. The gen 4 Prius Four tray is also keyed to accept only a notched filter, and I suspect the same is true for the gen 4 Prius Prime cabin filter tray (but I have not confirmed this). I have confirmed form-fit compatibility of VF2054 with gen 4 Pruis Four (currently installed in my 2018 Prius Four vehicle). Although I have not confirmed, through installation, form-fit compatibility of VF2054 in a Prius Prime, Amazon and E-Bay verification indicates that VF2054 is compatible with the gen 4 Prius Prime.
I'd like to change the cabin filter on my 2022 Prime. I'd like to get a Toyota one, but I am open to whatever third-party of good quality I can find elsewhere (e.g., Amazon). I guess to replace it is the same as in the 3rd and 4th gen vanilla Prius? I haven't checked the Prime manual yet - I am lazy this morning
I always purchase third party "activated carbon impregnated" filters for my Prii. Toyota does source these as their high performance filters, by they are pricy. JeffD
I bought this one last year on Amazon: EPAuto CP157 (CF12157) Carbon Replacement for Cabin Air Filter includes Activated Carbon JeffD
