Two questions really.. First, anyone here buy the middle tier prius and install a blind spot detection (BSD) and parking assistance system? Thoughts? Recommendations? Second, is there any way to buy a solution that integrates it to Toyota's existing user interface for BSD?.
No (since I bought the Advanced) but I presume run-of-the-mill parking sensors should be easy to install and no different from any other car. If you're talking about Intelligence Clearance Sonar retrofit, then that's a different can of worms. Also, the BSM on the Prime is just a small light on the mirror glass. It doesn't show up anywhere else. This solution seems pretty close: Blind Spot Detector Add-On | PriusChat
I've seen these all over the internet but the installation seems to be pretty advanced (even the link you shared, there is no mention to how it was wired and a custom button just appears, no source to where/how for example). I've been looking for manuals to follow in disassembly and installation, specific to Prius Prime trim.. so I figured to start here and see if anyone had done this sort of job on the Prime and could share some tips, do's don'ts etc. before I go through them....
The Repair Manual (more info) explains how to remove and reinstall the interior trim. In Europe, Toyota sells rear parking sensors (“TPA Rear”) as an accessory for the Prius Plug-in, and you may find the installation instructions (PDF)—and those for other accessories—useful for reference.
