This may help some of you planning on doing an aftermarket stereo install in a 2004-2007 Prius. This includes instructions for the 68ohm resistor as well. Special thanks to the guys at Metra Electronics for their help and instructions.
Thanks Presto If you choose to keep the factory stereo installed and install an aftermarket stereo under the facotry unit (in the storage pocket) you can bypass the 68ohm resistor mod by purchasing the Best Kits harnesses BHA-1761 and BHO-1761. The BHA-1761 harness will wire up to your aftermarket deck and plug into the factory harness. The BHO-1761 harness will splice into the BHA-1761 and allow you to power up your factory deck as well. This keeps the system intact electronically speaking and will keep you from having to do the 68-ohm resistor mod and will not set codes or warnings for the A/C connection issue. *NOTE* upon first firing up the system you may see a warning but it goes away after a bit of driving and I have not observed any issues since last winter when I did the install orginally. If this post seems helpful then I'll go over my exact wiring and try to take a few pics and post em up to make the install more clear.

I have the DNX-6140 Double DINs to replace the stock head unit. I have Scosche TA2103B kit with the harness for the 20-pins. While attempting to install yesterday, I discover that it does not have the 12v, ACC or Ground wires. I think I will need to get BHA1761 to avoid splicing OEM harness. Please confirm so that I can place an order. TIA.
The harness you have does not have the pins/wires in the locations for ACC, ground and 12v? How odd. Do you have pics of the harness and the color code? Otherwise I would say yes, then you need the BHA1761. You could use t-taps on the factory harness to save time and money but that is up to your judgment. Are you going to do the resistor mod?
This is the harness that came with Scosche TA2103B. As per the instruction, soldered 560 ohm resistor between the white and brown wires then to SWI-JACK white wire. Black goes to black. I have red (12v) and yellow (ACC) wires from SWI-JACK to connect to. I think that goes to the 10 pin harness from BHA1761. Let me know if I am doing something wrong. Thanks.
I took a pic of the back of DNX-6140. I grouped together Red, Yellow and Black wires together. I used them to test with my PC power supply (HD molex connector) and confirmed working. I just need to connect them to the car harness to get power.
Are you using an amplifier and running new wires to the speakers? I don't see a harness that has speaker wires on it besides the output of the deck. The harness you have looks like nothing more than a steering wheel adapter module. It's confusing for me since I never hook those things up. I did sale, not installs. lol If everything plugs in nice and neat but you are missing just the 3 main wire connections I would seriously think about just using t-taps unless you have the patience and money for the other harness. Without all of it in front of me though I am having a hard time seeing how it will all interface. I had to use 2 harnesses on my car since I didn't use the resistor mod.
Thanks, I think I figured it out. The harness (with white connector) that I had connected to the steering wheel interface has the resistor mod for the A/C. It also comes with the audio RCA plugs to connect the head unit to the Aux input inside the center armrest. I need BHA1761 for the power and to the speakers. I do not have an amp so BHA1761 will connect to the head unit directly to the speakers without extra wiring.
Will any 68ohm resistor work? I cannot post links of resistors as I have less than 5 posts but if someone would be so kind as to post a(some) link(s) to a(some) resistor(s) that will work I would be very appreciative. I want to make sure I have all of the parts assembled before I mess with something that could in theory mess my climate controls up. thank you. Edit: Never mind, the resistor comes with the package.
I saw somewhere it was .5 watt. That's the one I bought at Radioshack for like $1.29 or so. The worker was like why do you need a resistor so small! And I pulled up the pdf on my phone and showed him.. he was speechless
Yeah, just remember that if you have the fancy JBL option in the 2005 Prius, you'll need a different wiring harness than the standard Toyota one that all of these manuals refer to.
Situation: I have a 2009 Prius Base (non-JBL edition). I bought this double-DIN Dasaita Max 6 Andriod Auto head unit and I also purchased the Dasaita wiring harness (pics attached below) . After installing the stereo with the wiring harness above, all of the stereo functions work great but the MFD is coming up with the dreaded "Check the connection to the air conditioner" message. I do not want to leave my factory stereo inserted in the car. Plan: As I already have the Dasaita harness, I bought a 68 ohm 0.5 watt resistor from ebay. (I have a soldering iron and don't mind working with it.) Questions: Using the Dasaita harness above, can I avoid buying the Metra one as long as I splice in the resistor on the factory harness as indicated in the Metra PDF? If that plan won't work, what should I do? I don't mind buying another harness if needed, but before I go doing any splicing I'd like to be really careful. Thank you for any pointers you can provide, hopefully this will also help anyone else who has purchased a Dasaita head unit. Did you ever get the remote fixed? What troubleshooting steps did you take to make it work? Thank you for any follow-up.
