AHh.. lost a wheel cover last week. I thought the wheel covers were ugly. Guess what, w/o the cover, the wheel is uglier.. at least to me. New cover costs $80 at the dealer, I would not pay that much for a plastic piece that might get knocked off again. I figure some of the members here have upgraded their wheels, may have the original set lying around. I wouldn't mind buying a whole wheel as spare, or just the cover. I might go with this route, $$85 a piece is ridiculous for what it is. I can sell the three covers I have for at lease $100
I scrapped and bent my wheel cover for my prime. Where would you guys recommend purchasing one and how much should it be around? I saw in the thread that it is around $65? I know you guys mentioned just taking them off but I would like to replace this cover. Thanks guys
I removed mine in the first month I had the car because I think the wheels look much better without the wheel covers. I am keeping mine because when I sell the car some time in the future there is a good chance that one or more of the wheels will have been curbed or scratched up. Pop on the wheel covers and they will look like new again.
Mine were never on the car. I instructed the salesperson to walk the prep team to keep them in the plastic bags and place them in the back. When I picked up the car, I walked around it popping in the center wheel caps with my fist. Salesperson, possibly, was amused. Also, with the wheel covers off, you can check air pressure and fill if needed. Yup, stupidly, the covers also cover the valve stem.
I have the covers still on our wheels and I can check the tire pressure and fill up the tires when needed. Since there is a cut out for the valve stem, aligning that with the valve stem ensures you can do the same thing.
Yeah the wheel covers have a cut-out that allows valve access. OTOH, I think it's a little more finicky, and you can drop the cap, and they invariably will fall into the rim, leading to #*@!$ good times. @JImmyPriNew even made a video, a little funnel gizmo to divert the cap from falling in. Mine has an external TPMS sensor (valve cap) on the stem that kinda matches the OEM wheel cap. No need to check the air pressure.
If it is like the TPMS on my motorhome, you can read the current air pressure for each tire on my display on the dash.
Yap, the kit is a cheap ~$30 TPMS with a solar monitor unit that sits on the dash that tells each tire pressure real-time. I have checked the tire pressure using 4 different gauges and compared the value to this TPMS as well as an internal reading by TOYOTA OEM, and found they are very close to each other.
