Many times when making a sharp left turn, my 2017 Prime thinks I’m going to hit something. The first time I heard the warning beeps, it scared me and looked around and there was nothing I was about to hit. I’m now used to it and I just ignore it, not a good thing. It doesn’t happen every time I turn left but I would say I get those false alarms about 50% of the times I take a left turn at an intersection. And it’s only on left turns, especially sharp lefts. Never happens on right turns. Anyone had this happen? iPad ?
No, not while driving or turning. The software for all the sensors was upgraded last year with a service bulletin notice for my model year. It is now WAY more sensitive than ever before, with a new sensor location-based readout on the MID screen. By way more sensitive I mean this... where I park at work there is a small branch of a bush with not very many leaves on it that is behind the curb. The car goes crazy when it sees that tiny branch as I am parking at 0.05 miles per hour. Yet, at one spot over, with no branch, it pretty much can't see the relatively tall curb I'm about to hit at all. Improper aiming, maybe, maybe not. So while it may be more sensitive, and all models past 2017 are, it still isn't trustworthy.
Just one time. It was a sharp left curve on a rural road with a huge metal high tension line pole positioned to where, if (when) a car misses the curve, it will take down the pole, kill the car's occupants, and shut off power for thousands of people. The car didn't do a panic stop, but it sure startled me with its warning
Yup. Because it detects a passing car (oncoming) before I turn left. Happens both on the street and in parking lots.
If there was an oncoming car, I wouldn't be turning left. I've had this happen when there's no traffic at all in any direction.
This is after the car has passed. The Prime retains memory (about 2 mins IIRC) from its side sensors in case there are pillars or parked cars beside you and you turn too sharply. It shouldn’t occur if there’s no one around you at all. But if someone passed by recently (e.g. oncoming traffic) or you passed something closely, it will remember it.
I have tried to remember to bring a cutter with me to work. I would rather remove the more dangerous curb, but that would be blatant vandalism. But the reality of parking next to plant life is that the wind could blow branches against a car and cause scratches. I've got a good long one on my hood due to that.
