How to Program a New Key Fob for Full SKS Functionality

I bought a high mileage 2007 SKS Prius recently $2000C, After hard work, I replaced a used Hybrid Battery and it works ok and I am working on old hybrid battery trying to fix it with Ebay's cell module.

It leaks water at rear area badly, It is crazy multiple leaks (Toyota quality?), everywhere, I am still working on it to seal them one by one.

Then it come with only one black logo remote, Its remote function does not work, I can not lock / unlock car with this, I need spare key/Fob, What is best option for me? Thanks for any suggestion.

 

If you want to have SKS and remote locking that is fully functional, you will need to get at least one new key, then have a dealer do a re-seed and add the new key. At the end of this process confirm with dealer, that all other key are deleted. If you only got one key from the dealer immediately buy another brand new silver logo key fob from an online Toyota dealer then use the chicken dance to add the second key fob. This will likely be a bit cheaper than having the dealer supply both keys.

I have speech problem whole life, It is tough that I talk to dealer for good deal in Canada, It costs too much to do it from Dealer.
I am not sure that It is true that I can re-seed it myself.
It seems that I can do it myself.
1). Buy mini VCI kits come with bootleg tech-stream software 10.XX for $15 US
2). Buy passcode(Seed) for $30 US
3). Buy non SKS FOB from ebay for $62 US or SKS FOB for $$$

 

Do not buy a non-SKS, unless all you are interested in is having to insert the key fob into the slot to start the car. This fob cannot be programmed to use the remote (different radio freq used between SKS and non-SKS) lock/unlock, and obviously it will not work for proximity lock/unlock/start.

I will reiterate, only buy a brand new silver logo (SKS) key fob. If a key fob has been paired to another car, therefore no longer brand new, it will not be able to be fully functionally be added to your car. There are online Toyota dealers that sell these for a reasonable price.

 

I check my FOB, It is Silver logo, for some reason, Its SKS doesn't work with my car.
I think that I will get mini VCI kit first to find the problem first before I do anything else.

What exactly do you mean by, "it does not work"? What have you done to get it to work?

 

It came with one very old Silver logo FOB and light blinking by pressing it, SKS is not working, Remote is not working, Car SKS switch in out(on) mode.
If I put fob in FOB slot, I am able to start the car.
I have no idea that this FOB belong to this car or not.
Due to remote is not working, I can not active other FOB using "Chicken dance".

 

I performed chicken dance with my new fob.

At the last step when I press lock on new fob, my doors unlock and lock twice unlike the guy in the video his just door lock just once.

And my new fob does not work. Any idea what does that mean?

Replace the battery in the old key fob first.
I had to repeat a number of times as minor differences in how quickly you go through the steps seem to really matter.
Amazon has a proper key fob for $167.00.
They also just have cases if your old one is all falling apart but videos online warn to have a working backup first as it is extremely easy to damage the electronics which is how I got one with the electronics.
I had just canceled a locksmith visit in the Houston area as they wanted $340(!!) and I am sure a dealer would be at least that much.
So this saved me around $160.

I got a beat up 2007 prius.
I change battery and LED is flashing and Inside car, SKS button it out meaning that SKS function is enable. It doesn't work.on sks function and remote function.
In my Case, It is better for me to get my VCI cable to see what is going on there.
I did find a new OEM claimed silver logo FOB for $100+ $10 shipping.
Without working FOB for chicken dance, How to program it which is other CAN of worm.
I did order a cheap Fob unit with mini receiver unit for $5, I might just install it to overide door lock/unlock.

 

Hi there - I'm a newbie to these cars and really wish that I had found this forum prior to doing something stupid. Hopefully someone can help...

I bought a 2007 prius about a week ago. It only had one fob and I really wanted to have a second one. I looked around online and saw quite a number of youtube videos explaining how to program a second fob. It looked straightforward so, picking up a rear parcel shelf from a breaker I also grabbed a used fob from them too and then earlier today I tried the programming technique.

What I found was that after inserting the new (used) fob, the key symbol started to flash - the problem was that it just continued and continued for well over 10 minutes until I removed it. I retried the process but still no luck. The next thing I know is that I can only get the flashing key on the dash to stop when I have my original fob inserted. As soon as I remove it, the flashing starts again. What made this worse was that for some reason my battery drained within a couple of hours. I called the RAC who diagnosed that one of the cells was defective so I spent £250 having a replacement AGM battery fitted.

The problem is that the flashing is still happening and when I looked at the RAC report, it shows a battery draw of 0.7 amps which online sources suggest is way too much. It almost feels as if somehow the reprogramming function hasn't turned off and is just going and going and that this may have drained my battery.

Can someone please help? Is there a process for exiting the keyfob reprogramming mode where it has been unsuccessful?

Ultimately, I went to the dealer with the following:
i.) old fob (falling apart, old, silver-logo-backed fob);
ii.) brand new silver-logo-backed fob (purchased at Toyota dealer on ebay);
iii.) Replacement Fob Case For 2004 2005 2006 Toyota Prius Key Fob (purchased off ebay for $8.50);
iv.) 2032 battery for existing fob (purchased 4 pack of 2032 batteries from Harbor Freight for about $3 after 20% discount coupon and sales tax);
v.) brand new fob WITHOUT silver-logo-back (purchased on ebay)

I met with the technician in order to explain what we were trying to do: a.) program new silver-logo-backed fob; b.) replace battery and case in the old, silver-logo-backed fob. Service writer was nice but lacked technical knowledge. For example, service writer represented that the brand new fob WITHOUT silver-logo-back could also be programmed to my SKS system (technician quickly explained that this was false).

Took about 1/2 hour once the car was in the shop.

Cost $63.60 for the above service ($60 plus $3.60 sales tax) at Koch 33 Toyota in Easton PA.

Very happy now because I have two fully functioning SKS fobs and both fobs are in brand new condition*. Technician changed the battery and case in the old fob for no additional charge.

*- please note, the replacement fob case does NOT have silver-logo-back.

PS I went to the local hardware store in West Easton where he cut the physical key from 1.) the brand new silver-logo-backed fob; and 2.) Replacement Fob Case. Which means that I ended up with one extra physical key (as I still had the physical key from the old fob - falling apart, old, silver-logo-back).

 

Swap the back with the silver logo from the original case with the plain backed one from the new case.

That's what I did. Mine wasn't too beat up so it kind of looks original but with a pristine front.

 

$63 bucks is a pretty good deal for anything at the dealership! Hopefully the tech also swapped the RFID chip...you can test that just by making sure the car starts if you have the fob inserted in the slot.

And one thing I will NEVER buy at Harbor Freight is.....batteries...……..my experience with them has been less than satisfactory.

 

Replacement Fob Case For 2004 2005 2006 Toyota had NO guts, Thus the board (and the RFID chip) were swapped into the replacement fob case. In six months, I will report back on my HF 2032 battery in the replacement fob case and let all know whether the battery is still working properly then.

 

My intention is to cut a portion of the old fob case up with the band saw in order create a "square charm with the chrome Toyota logo." My intention is to attach the charm to the round ring on the replacement fob case.

 

Ordered a new key SKS fob online and programmed it following this procedure. Worked perfectly the first time!

I have a question / problem. I was able to complete most of the process, but not all of it.

I bought a new chrome-logo fob from a dealer for my 2005 Prius. I am the original owner of the car.

After failing at Part A (more below), I was able to implement Part B, so now I have a new fob that works for keyless entry and keyless ignition. I also got it cut for $4, so I have a working manual door key.

But before I went to Part B, I failed at Part A. I was able to use the old fob to get the car into fob programming mode, with the red anti-theft light on. I then removed the old fob and inserted the new fob. The anti-theft light started to blink in a 2-3-2-3 etc sequence, pretty much like you predicted. After about a minute, that blinking stopped, but the light started to blink more slowly in a regular on-off-on-off pattern. I waited about 5 minutes, but the blinking never stopped. When I did finally remove the new fob, the light went to solid red. I then opened the door and the anti-theft light went off. The new fob did not work to start the car when I inserted it.

I did this 4 separate times, with the same result, before I gave up and went to Part B.

Does anyone have any advice about this?

I would love to figure out how to make my new fob work when it is inserted... for example, in case the battery burns out and I need to use it manually.
