Smart Key won't work : code B2775

    Ok, so maybe "Erasure mode" then "add mode". I hope "Erasure mode" won't erase the ID's of my fobs from the transponder but the fobs from the owner of the 2nd smart key ECU. What a mess.

    I agree. I believe the Erasure mode is just related to erasing the fobs from the Smart ECU. However, I haven't needed to do this work, so I suggest you study the repair manual very carefully before you take any action.

    I suggest you read about the engine immobilizer system (w/ smart entry system) within the Diagnostics section of the repair manual. Notice the need to register the ECU COMMUNICATION ID between the Smart ECU and the Transponder Key ECU. That probably needs to be done as soon as you swap the replacement Smart ECU.

    I read these section but they talk (obviously) about a "new ECU" being swapped, not a used one. I'm hoping that Darkgiant could read my message (and private msg) because he had exactly the same problem.

    "So I ordered the Certification ECU/Smart Key ECU, I opened up the entire from assembly of the car, replaced the ECU, reprogrammed the Immobilizer, than both smart keys, and BOOM, it works!"

    I'm trying to understand what he tells about "reprogrammed the Immobilizer, then both smart keys".

    To Chaosphere and Patrick Wong or whomever:
    How did this work out? We are having almost an identical symptoms with our 2010 Prius, but the opposite is causing it ... when parked in the sun for 20minutes+, the car won't unlock and we get the usual 'key not detected" and "fob to power button, depress brake pedal" readout. If we open the doors and rear hatch to cool the car, we can get up and running very quickly. On cool days, or during the winter, the car has been perfect. No issue.

    But it's been getting worse. Took it to Toyota dealership mechanic. After a diagnostic, dismantling of dash, and a computer test, we're now being told its the 3 main circuit boards in the dash instrument cluster that are failing. His quote for the 3 circuit boards, 2 ribbon connectors and all the labour tallied up will be $5500CAD. The car is only worth $7500 (2010 with 242k kms).

    If the circuit boards were coming-up as failing, would we not be having other issues?? We have had this heat issue for 2 years now, but no other symptom, no other warning ever comes up. The car drives perfect, and nothing on the dash ever goes dark or shows a warning .... Just those two "messages" above.

    Our car is still at Toyota, apart awaiting our decision. Of course, spending $5500 makes no sense .. and to further, we are not confident that all the bases have been covered by the mechanic. And reading Chaosphere's story has us really thinking now.

    Yes, the dealer mechanic recommends replacing all possible failed components. If you have the ability to do that replacement yourself then you could look for used parts on eBay. Or live with the problem.
