I suspect their hesitance is that electrical based welding tools can in rare instances cause damage to a Prius, but this is primarily related to welding cars after an accident in a body repair shop, not welding exhaust systems. Their refusal to weld in cat protection is simple fear / ignorance of High Voltage systems in cars, which sadly is still way too common in the automotive industry...

Don't know what you hope to achieve.. that is not effective to stop a thief and all you have done is create a point for rust to set in where you welded to the unibody. Maybe you have not heard of a sawzall but it would take about a minute to cut the thin exhaust fore and aft of your steel bar.

A much more effective deterent would be a steel plate covering the exhaust tunnel. Could have holes in it for airflow.

Seems like that extra heat would shorten it's lifespan?

Besides more heat for the car probably too.

And possibly dash lights because sensors are quick to complain if something isn't normal in the exhaust system...

maybe, but it could be open to the front and rear or could be the stuff with big holes in it like metal step grating.

Maybe even add tiny propellers with servos to direct the wind? Lol... Point being... Paranoid people are hilarious about how much time and energy their fears waste on worthless perspectives.

Some insurance companies will pay for your catshield. I got the Millercat Cat Shield last year and I haven't had a problem since. They recently came out with steel option cat shield plates too. Highly recommend. www.catshield.com

Off topic, but mine is also called “the spaceship” in the family!! A 2008 as well. Funny ;)
But looks like a good way to protect it! Mine already came with a shied I think, but since a random rise in crime lately I’m going to double check with a flashlight.
