page 118 of the Owners manual says that if the Charging cable lifespan notice is flashing "...The number of charges using the charging cable is nearing the end of its usable life span. Consult your Toyota dealer" Does anyone have any idea if how many charges make up its usable life span. has anyone ever worn out a cable?
30,000 charges based on firmware. That warning comes on at 29,900 charges. that’s 82 years if you charge once a day. Prime technical training (Toyota course TIN517A) | PriusChat
My OEM cable has always fit easily into the charge port of the car. I notice on newer EVSE installations that the cable end fits much more snuggly and is someimes hard to remove from the charge port. After 30,000 in/outs I'd imagine both the plug and the socket might be kinda wobbly worn. By than there will surely be a firmware hack to extend the OEM's lifespan so we wouldn't have to pay the $2000 replacement part in the year 2099
Probably relay contacts, but by that time all the other parts of it will probably show a lot of wear as well.
Has anyone had the plug stop working? I have a prime 2017 actually bought in March 2018 and last night when I plugged it in I didn’t hear the usual click when you plug and it didn’t charge overnight. It charges normally on the ChargePoint stations. I did notice that comes off if you pull it even if you don’t press the button which is probably the cause of the problem. It seemed like a pretty robust plug was not expecting this....
sounds right. can you look inside to see if the mechanics are okay. maybe something foreign lodged in there?
That click is important. Next time you don't hear that click when you push the charge cable into the charge port, pull it out and try inserting it again.
Looked at it in daylight and saw nothing out of the ordinary nothing bent or lose Tried that numerous times it seems loser than the L2 ChargePoint plug Realize the click is important but it doesn’t happen. It also doesn’t lock and seems loser than before. Should I try to open it to see if there’s anything broken or out of place?
What about other charger cables? Like a checkpoint charge station. Do you get the click? I wouldn't tamper with the OEM cable, Not yet anyway! See what others say.
I don't hear the click on ChargePoint station but it locks for sure. Running out of options here... it seems there is something definitely wrong with the plug.
Here’s what the plug looks like currently. I don’t see anything out of the ordinary except for Normal wear and tear.
does it go in all the way? and if so, what is the locking tab doing? even without the click, it can close properly, which would allow charging. also, is the light on the brick on?
the light on the brick is on and it goes in all the way as far as I can push it in (don't wanna force anything). The locking tab doesn't seem to go down more either. I will try to open the plug at this point to see if there's any broken component.
If the locking tab isn't going down, either the plug isn't all the way in because something is blocking it or else something is preventing the tab from dropping into place behind the retainer in the charging port. Since charge point works, the problem would most likely be in the plug on your EVSE rather than on the port on the car. Your picture in post 17 is nice and clear, but at that angle, we can't see if maybe there is something stuck on the back side of that locking tab and holding it up so it won't snap down into place.
