We were on a short drive when all of these lights came on and the ac started blowing hot air. Also, the Push to start button is amber! Any Ideas? Thanks!
you'll have to read the trouble codes with a prius aware scanner. the lights only tell us there's a problem. codes define it, and service manual helps solve it. how many miles on her? i assume it's not the 2017
IDNK but "fine for the first 10 miles" and "blowing hot air" sounds like an overheating engine. Maybe low engine coolant or a defective thermo switch. SM-G950F ?
or overheated hybrid battery. maybe bad, maybe clogged fan, maybe inverter pump, maybe corrosion, maybe
But the warmth for "the ac started blowing hot" can only come from the engine, I think. If this happens unwanted, I'd like to say the system tries to lower the temperature of the engine. Why is the engine too hot? Maybe it's not using the cooler because of a closed thermo valve. (The fan shouldn't be needed after only 10 miles. A not running fan shouldn't be the problem.) But all these lights,... I would check the DTCs, too! SM-G950F ?
My idea is for you to check the inverter coolant pump to see if it is operational. When the Prius is READY, do you see fluid turbulence in the inverter coolant reservoir? If you do not, the pump has failed, the inverter is overheating, and that is causing the warning lights to appear, and the air conditioner compressor to stop working.
Many will purchase a mini-vci cable (with or without the techstream sw) online. Most sellers are either from China or NA, which one would depend on how fast you need it and or dollars saved.
Zardoz, It's very simple to check if the inverter cooling pump is working. Another optional way to check it is to press the power button 2 times with your foot NOT on the brake. The pump should run. It should make a humming noise directly behind the driverside headlight. Remove the cap from the coolant reservoir next to the inverter. Look inside. There should be strong ripples in the fluid. If not, you have a pump problem. The engine wont start when doing it this way, it eliminates any vibrations you may see in the fluid due to the engine starting and eliminates background noise issues.
Everyone, Here is the update: 1. Ready light will not come on - Power button light is amber in color - Trans will not go into D, R or B but DOES go between Park and Neutral 2. You have seen the displayed lights on a previous post. The MFD shows a Red vehicle with an '!' in the middle it at the top left 3. Here are the codes that came back on after clearing Hybrid P0AA6 with detail codes 1 = 0, 2 = 526, 3 = 612, 4 = 0, 5 = 0 ABS C1259 and C1310 AC B1421 4. Here is a code that did NOT come back on after clearing Trans C2318 Hopefully someone smarter than me can make sense of this! Thanks, Jim
You can ignore DTC B1421, just means the vehicle was parked in the shade. PHOENIX HYBRID BATTERIES
Toyota says new HV Battery is needed. I will contact Phoenix Hybrid Batteries! Thanks for the suggestion.
Followup: Had a leaking HV Battery cell. Phoenix Hybrid Batteries will no longer exchange the pack for a 2008 Pruis - seems too many failures. But, since we needed it fixed on the cheap he replaced the leaking cell for me. No warranty of course. Oddly enough when we went to fill up with gas the tank would only fill half way up! I doubt it is related unless blocking the vent is is a safety issue when servicing the battery and the vent was not unblocked. It is almost time to fill up again so I will keep you posted.
