Michelin Energy Saver, Goodyear Fuel Max or Bridgestone Ecopia?

A good point there. When you have an extra set of "snow boots" for winter, your regular tires can go further. It's maybe a little extra expense/hassle, but there are benefits, and there's the added winter traction factor.

 

Also, I have a whole winter to shop around for the best deal on a set of tires to put in spring. Tire prices with sales and rebates make a huge difference in total cost.

 

Yeah, I bought new all-seasons last fall, after I'd put the snow tires on. Even before the snow tire "rush", which makes it hard to book an appointment.

Just had them mounted on the loose (OEM) rims. Will be putting them on in a few weeks I guess. Still chilly around here, remnants of snow in the shade.

 

Our spring does not come until May. Our morning low is still -20C, daytime high -5C. I will change my tire probably after Memorial Day.

 

Holy smokes. Currently +3C here. You get the prevailing winds from the deep-freeze interior of the continent, while ours is coming off the Pacific.

 

Mendel, What brand of tires did you ended up buying? Were they 17's? Thanks. I will be looking to replace my 17 " Bridgestones soon.

 

Michelin E/S Most Money...…..Bridgestone Ecopia less cost than Michelin E/S..... Goodyear Fuel saver similar cost and most available at wally world. Have drove all three Tires first person witness and IMHO Michelin E/S overpriced in comparison to Ecopia (currently) driving and getting roughly same mileage results.

 

Michelin Primacy MXM4 in 215/45R17. Haven't put them on yet.

 

My 2015 came New with Goodyear Assurance tires. Changed them at 38k feb 2018 with enough tread to probably last through summer or another 10k. More for piece of mind. I switched to Michelin Premier A/s (Costco) as I currently have them on our SUV and love them. I could tell they were going to kill my MPG the moment I accelerated. I needed to push on the gas a bit more to get moving than with the Goodyear’s. I figured I’d give them some time and see how it goes. The comfort and quietness was far superior to the Goodyear’s but as I suspected my MPG went down to 38-42. I was getting 47-49 easy in the Goodyear’s. I put about 900 miles on them and returned them. The Michelin Energy Saver A/S were not available at Costco with no ETA of new stock so I settled for Bridgestone ecopia 422 Plus. MPG improved but still not as good as the Goodyear’s. They were pretty noisy for about the first 5k then seemed to quiet down a bit (or I just got used to them.) I currently have 18k miles on them (8/32) and think they handle much better than the GY and wear a lot better as well. Average about 44-45 mpg. If or when I’m in the market for new tires I would first like to go with the Michelin Energy Saver A/S for their mpg. My next choice would probably be Ecopia.

You will need to special order them with Costco. I know that most of them don't have them, but you can give them a call and they can order them for you. I was planning to do that when I need to replace all 4 of my tires. I also bought the 2015 prius in nor cal in concord and they also came with Goodyear Assurances. For some reason, 1 tire went out around 36k miles too, but the rest were fine. I ended up just replacing that 1 tire with another Goodyear Assurance.

 

Jon, did you notice any drop in your MPG with the Hankooks?

 

I have driven mine for the past 3 months with Hankooks on all fours. 52 to 60 mpg at 40 psi.

 

Monday I'll buy the Hankook PT H737s. Prices are up lately. The LRR models in the thread title tend to be so expensive or short-lived that I doubt fuel savings could compensate.

The cheap Chinese tires the dealer installed before selling this car have about 62.6k miles now.

 

I have driven turd gen for the past year w/Green X. 65 to 66 mpg at 44psi on all fours.

 

"Green-X" is a Michelin Tire designation indicating a tire that has low rolling resistance. It's applied to several of their tires, though the number seems to be dwindling, supplanted by "Total Performance". The difference between those two designations is vaguely explained by Michelin; I think in the main that the "Total Performance" is more of a balance, between rolling resistance and grip/performance??

A case in point: Defender was designated "Green-X", and the replacement Defender T+H is "Total Performance". What that means in terms of rolling resistance, who knows.
