Unable to fill talk completely

Curious if you used the same station and same pump the second time.

My guess there is too much back pressure on the nozzle when you inserted it into the filler. It happens to me from time to time. If I pull out the nozzle a little bit, there is enough air movement to keep it going. Also try just using the slower fill tab/holder.

Just editorial: for a few hours you're able to edit the title of a thread you started. Look up near the top, there's a button, forget what it's called exactly, but it's there.

The door issue is just with 4th gen if I'm not mistaken. 2nd gen had problems with the gas tank having an internal flexible bladder. Haven't really heard of problems with third gen.

I'd guess it was a touchy gas station pump.

 

No. The little tab that sets the speed of the gas flow. Usually there are 2-3 levels to control the speed. The faster it pumps the more air is needed to keep the pressure from shutting it off. If you use the slowest setting, it will pump better.

it's a nozzle thing, not a car thing. The filler hole can be tight depending on the actual size of the nozzle. If one is just slightly bigger, it won't allow for as much air to flow.

 

it really doesn't take much back pressure to set it off. and there are a lot of other variables that can be in play. If it stops sooner than you'd like, pull the nozzle out slightly and slow down the flow. I doubt there is anything wrong with your car itself.

 

try pumping as slow as possible

 

Make sure the fuel nozzle is seated firmly against the fill neck of the car. Anytime the seal is broken between neck ant the nozzle it will trip off. I push the nozzle into the fill neck a substantial amount to assure a good tight seal before I trigger the nozzle.

 

How appropriate. The long lines behind you at Costco are going to just love that. But they'll understand. It's a Prius.

In case it might help, on a different, old car of mine there's a similar problem and the trick is to basically have the nozzle rotated 180 degrees from its normal orientation. I.e. put the nozzle in, then rotate 180 degrees. Possible on that other car because the filler is in the top of the fender, not sure how possible it is here. But maybe trying a little twist would allow you to maintain speed.

Many pumps nowadays refuse to slow down much, if at all.

 

Sand pounders are made on that situation.

 

try sitting at a station on the jersey turnpike

 

Do not try ti fill a v to the top.... it throws the gas gauge off..... I made the mistake of seeing how much gas I could get in.....
Just put gas in till pumps shuts...don't keep putting small amounts in till way at the top....
