My Michelin OEM tires rotted out at the sidewalls at 20k miles. I got Bridgestone Ecopias and couldn't be happier.

 

Have your (Michelin) cake and eat it too (so to speak). Costco every other month runs a deal that will get you four Michelins for about the same money you are talking. Plus you get lifetime balance and rotations free along with any repairs.

I would still buy Michelins if only for their safety and their ability to maintain a balance over time. But I also routinely get 90k-100k miles with them. So while others will buy two or three sets of tires and pay $20-$30 everytime for rotations, I enjoy the same set. The financial and safety payback on Michelin tires are real. Sams Club also has similar deals. I use Costco as they throw in free Nitrogen as well.

That's because you don't have a "Five" that came with the awful 17 inch W-speed rated (168 mph) Toyo tires that makes the car ride like an ox cart. Ours were nearly worn out by 20,000 miles when my wife ruined one and we replaced them all. By "worn out", I mean that they had less than 4/32" of tread depth and were becoming unsafe on wet roads.

These Goodrich tires also have a "W" speed rating. Major tire sellers here will not sell or install non-Winter tires that have lower speed ratings than the tires than came on a vehicle.

We are still pleased with the Goodrich tires after three years. The ride is plush compared to that provided by the Toyos and the handling is much better. The Toyos had very poor traction and braking. The Goodrich tires are wearing evenly - thread depth is about 7/32" on all four after about 10,000 total miles of 3-season use. The original tread depth was 9/32". These tires are in the "Ultra High Performance All-Season" category which means that they aren't designed for long life. As I said in the thread I referenced, we keep these tires at the recommended pressures on the door jam - 33 psi in front and 32 psi in back - for a comfortable ride.

The cost of these Goodrich tires at Costco in 2016 was about $472 before tax. I doubt that they will last 25,000 miles but that's not a problem at the rate the car is used since these tires will "age out" before they are worn out. This 2012 Prius v is currently at 42,7xx miles and has been driven less since my wife retired in 2017. At the current rate, the car will cover about 3,500 miles in this calendar year and some of that will be on winter wheels/tires.

Personally, with an average yearly use of <7k miles, I don't think I would justify any expense above a nice basic set of tires.

I have these on my 2007 (stock size). Installed at Pepboys for about $400 out the door, and currently have ~40k miles on them. I expect to get quite a bit more. They're nothing super special, but I'm happy with them. Current tank of gas is at 53.3 mpg and about 250 miles.

I had these installed just a few months after buying the 2007. I was on my way back from Atlanta on a Sunday and my front driverside tire started making a thumping noise. Pulled over and found a big bubble on the inner edge of the tread. Pep Boys was the only place nearby that had tires available and this was the brand they had. Beggars can't be choosers. Luckily, they worked out very well and I would probably buy them again when the time comes.
