Average Time Frame - Shipment to Delivery

And you are not going to know that the car has been shipped unless the dealer is both honest and very interested in checking up on its status on the Toyota system. That is assuming that they have earmarked a vehicle in transit specifically for their dealership and in turn for you.

Most dealerships have demonstrated that they either do not choose to earmark vehicles for their customers, or don't know how to. As such, if you do not have a vehicle that is meant for you on the Toyota system, then you are just waiting for normal allocation to come in an fill your request.

Time to call your dealer and get specifics.

 

Average is about 2-4 weeks nowadays, I think, judging from what I've read here. Mine got from factory to me in about 3 weeks, even after a hurricane delay.

Unless you know of others who have actually received cars from the dealer you are working with, HEDGE your bets! We did and were glad we did. We ordered Prius on 1/7/06, dealer said it would be here 3/30. Then it was 4/30. Well, we finally took delivery on 8/29.
Because of the 1st dealers horsing around we order another Prius on 5/5. They said delivery would be 7/30. The salesman was very honest and really knew Priuses. Even so they changed the date to 8/30. Then they changed delivery to 9/22 to 9/28. Now they are talking between 9/15 and 9/22. This should be accurate now.

I ordered my 2006 on May 22 and picked it up at the dealer on July 19, about eight weeks. Of course this is in So. California, where the wait, because of demand, is longer.

Hello my first post. The wife and I have recently ordered a 06 prius and had same concerns. The dealership which is the Fort Myers FL Toyota kindly provided the VIN number of our prius. We have been able to verify this by going through the Build your own prius link on main toyota website with specs we orignally choose. The end result allowed us to see incoming Prius's to the dealership and low and behold ours is second one down on the list and marked to be rec.'d on 9/21. We just visited dealership this past weekend on 9/10/06. Dealer advised me the car is delivered to Jacksonville FL via ship directly from Japan and then trucked down here to Fort Myers from there. Hope this gives you a idea on what to expect from your dealership.

If you get yours before the 30th, I should also. My Chicago area dealer called with a VIN number yesterday. I reserved a Seaside #5 from their allocation on the 4th. They assured me delivery before the 30th.
