I almost edited my previous post in this thread... My wife noted that we don't get very many strangers asking about our Prius. But last summer we bought an '05 Chrysler Pacifica, and numerous people in of all places, gas stations, post office parking lot, in front of our grandmother's senior apratment building would walk up and ask about our "crossover" wagon/SUV. Even a guy at a Starbucks drive-thru thought the Pacifica was cool - He liked the dashboard. One of the old guys that sits in front of the apartment building regularly told my wife that he thought the Pacifica was really sharp car. "Of all the cars that I see come in here, I like yours the most." I hadn't thought about it. But it's true. And now that I am thinking about it, I am surprised that our Prius generates far less inquiry or comment. Our family and neighbors were interested and asked questions, but they had similar interest in the new car we got last year. Wierd.
i wrote about this issue on my blog it was actually spurred by a post i initiated here a few months ago called "hybrid hater honk." i'm all about the rehash, so... "There are a lot of annoying people with Prius envy, this is not to be confused with the good be people who also have Prius envy. Ever since I saw Larry David tootling around LA on Curb Your Enthusiasm in his funny looking Toyota (first generation Prius), I’ve had Prius envy. I’m talking about the Freudian type of envy where you actually want to kill your father because he's sleeping with your mother and is the possessor of the phallus. This is Prius envy in its truest sense. At this level people don’t realize they envy the Prius but believe they hate it. Perhaps an examination of the displaced anger of the hybrid hater honk might shed some light on this phenomenon." it goes on and on, but i think you got the point.

I must be missing out on all this fun stuff . . . or I keep the radio up too loud (nothing like that thump of NPR as you tool down Ashby Avenue). I wouldn't let it get to me. I'd have a Prius hater flip me off and raise back my index finger saying, "Yeah! NUMBER ONE hybrid!" (Remembering the Steve Young Toyota commercials)

Harding in 1920 and in common usage since. I prefer the Germanic/"rationalist" "will to power" to the Americanized/schleppy "lust for power". (Then again, u could gag me wif a spoon.)
