Hybrid Battery Fail after JOV recall

start with the 12v health, then tech stream. if you're lucky, it might be something simpler/cheaper

 

I sure others can chime in, but it seems Toyota has been pretty good with warranty just past the expiration,
if that may be the case.

But I agree check that 12V especially if it has not been replaced recently.

What is the "JOV software update"? Is that the latest inverter update? Google isn't helping.

Sure, I did. Completely uneventful here. The updated firmware version shows up when I query in Techstream.

 

I had it done on our 2010 and put over 5k miles on our Prius with no issues.

Uneventful as it should have been.

 

Found from Toyota tech support that there is some IMA extended warranty that is applicable, unlimited mileage, up until 15 years (have a case open for brakes honking when braking in spirited manner)

 

That post is a strange mix of issues.

The warranty extension to 15 years on a component inside the inverter is the warranty extension ZE3. It only applies if the recall E0E firmware update has been performed on the car. An inverter that fails because the owner never applied the E0E update would not be covered.

No relation to brake honks.

 

I meant I was on call for my brake issue and then mentioned this issue which occured after the j0v recall, that's when the tech support mentioned about this invertor ext warranty

 

OP may have used O instead of 0. In the IT field, we designate a circle with a forward slash thru it signifying a zero number value.

Either way, I'm still in the dark: maybe someone can describe what the heck it is, in colloquial English? I'm guessing inverter software update, the latest one, that came down from Toyota in the last year??

I went to have the joh update done and after they did their complimentary “inspection” advisor says I need a new hybrid battery. Apparently their software is showing like literally all cells are below threshold. No lights or anything prior to me taking it to them. Battery was operating fine. Hell the average mpg was 47.5mpg so I’m calling bull shits.

It was. But something else happened. Which I’m not sure yet if Dealer tech screwed up. Or what. But not battery issues that’s for sure.

 

I have not had the latest recall work done yet. Last time I was at the dealer, they came up with that $2k to repair some oil seepage over on the passenger side. Alternative is "just watch it." So, I am watching. No oil on garage floor but I expect them to bring it up again when I go back in. Now wondering if they will try to push a new hybrid battery. My car is a 2010 purchased new in October of that year. I replaced the small battery in 2015. Should I start to worry about the hybrid battery? I haven't noticed any issues. I am under 130k in miles. Wondering if it is time to trade the 2010 in...... Are 2010 owners seeing the batteries fail?
