Selecting a car is a very personal thing. I knew an elderly gent who bought a beautiful, 15yr old Rolls. He knew that it wasn't the wisest, most practical car decision - but, he said, "so what" - it's what I want. He loved it. Ended up driving it a lot more than he'd driven in the past, went on quite a few long trips - which he wouldn't have otherwise. Sadly, after a few years, ailing health he went to a retirement village - and couldn't fit the Rolls in the garage. He died not long after selling it. In comparison with at Rolls - a PRIUS is a very practical car. The back seat is far more useful than many other hatch-backs.
I do less than 3k miles a year, drive the car every few days and no problem. Not sure if it really needs it, but I put the 12v on a battery conditioner every 5-6 weeks just to keep it healthy. Dealer service every year.
