2004 prius started up on battery only, ran down to the lowest level and gas engine was not operating. MPH down to 5. Stopped, shut off engine. Restarted the car. Got gasoline engine running and was able to recharge the battery while driving. Dealer response: Regprogrammed engine ecu per tsb eg047-04. Then they charged me $114.
That fixed the problem? I hadn't heard of this one before, hopefully you didn't damage your batteries doing that.
That's a very old TSB (Oct. 2004). A bit surprising you hadn't had that update done at one of your routine service visits.
The ECU reprogramming is covered under the Federal Emission warranty of 8 years / 80K miles. Hence if your car's odometer shows a lower reading, that work should have been performed free of charge.
our '06 wouldn't run off the battery with a full charge. it completely shut down. put gas started right up. i always wondered.
