Hello,I have replaced the Factory JBL head unit with Pioneer AVH Z9200 DAB which is a European equivalent of NEX W4500 - with insight gathered here . I tried to use the idatalink maestro rr to retain steering wheel controls, but it turned out that maestro supports only American models - they verify that by serial number. Luckily my local car audio specialists found a European supplier. However I can only control volume and tracks - no car setting controls. Also could not retain the factory amp —which is bypassed and the JBL speakers are run off of the HU - which works but not amazingly. Therefore I would ask for your advise on upgrading the system. Budget - ça 600 usd.I am very curious how would you approach it. I am considering putting in a subwoofer and mono amp as a first step and if not satisfied upgrading speakers and adding another amp. With speakers i wonder if it makes sense to install better 2 way coaxial in dash corners or go with 2 way component? I am worried about fairly long distance between the tweeter and mid bass in the latter. iPhone ?
I think the idea is manipulating your sound stage. Higher frequencies (voice, symbols, etc) should be up on the dash area. In my opinion anyhow.
Crutchfield insist our Prius try not to exceed 30 amps. I have seen handful of posts of people putting in powerful systems that most likely exceed it. I’m not sure how the car will perform with continued use with major wattage amps and speakers. I’m much more conservative so I have a set of infinity reference speaker replacements, and I’ll add an alpine power pack for extra boost. And most likely add a compact under seat subwoofer. I only installed the head unit. Trying to find time to install everything else.
