So I took a lot of heat for buying a Prius Prime, but it is well worth it. I just drove my Prime from Michigan to Las Vegas Nevada. Guess how much I spent in fuel????? $74.00 AND I still had 3/4 of a tank upon arrival Ha Ha haters! I just came back from the dealership for my 20,000 mile maintenance and they were amazed as was my traveling companion. They are now looking into purchasing one. I love my car, it was a very comfortable ride...Go Prime, 2074 miles= $74.00
Congrats!! I love mine, too. We got it in early March. If not for our 6,000+ mile vacation trip, I'd still be on my second tank with 4,500+ non-vacation trip miles. On the trip, we faced 30-50 mph headwinds going across NM and part of AZ as well as all of NE and IA. Two people and the rest of the car full of our stuff. 56.6 mpg anyway thanks to getting ridiculously good mileage in the mountains of AZ, NM, and CO on the northbound leg.
So if you charge the battery before you run out of gas does that extend your range? What was your range on a tank?
It does for me. On my last tank I went 2416 miles. But charging the battery on the Prime does not change the distance to zero guestimate on the car's computer. That's based solely on thee remaining gas and the historical rate of use. This is a change from the previous generation (PiP) which included battery range in the distance to zero.
Thank you Jerry! I was just looking for "extreme" hypothetical as an inclusive one trip estimate. Assuming you are charging at home to get 2416 miles on one tank? If you are getting this w/out recharging at home, I'll be damned! lol
there's not much point to trying to charge the primes 30 mile range to extend a trip. the range is around 600 miles. just fill up when you have to, and charge when you can, its a phev
590 miles - Maryland to Montreal, used only 50% of fully charged battery each way. Parking garage in Montreal had free charging, so zero fuel around town Highway milage with car in Hybrid Mode: 59 mpg north bound 65 mpg south bound
