Is there a backlash against Prius that I haven't heard about? CNET has a site titled "Best Hybrids" that does not include a Prius for some reason. Best Hybrids of 2019 - Roadshow My 2009 Prius is still the best hybrid for me!

um, volt is being discontinued... is it really cnet? i can't find that anywhere. i have just lost all respect. they do mention prius in the ionic blurb, maybe they should look at sales figures
No Pay, No Play Also, no RAV4 hybrid, but two model years of that 21mpg Acura Hybrid make the list. Methinks its not a very serious effort. Oh, and the cheapest car in the "most affordable" group starts at $28,550. The Corolla Hybrid base MSRP is $23,100.....
Outdated articles are a standard part of market. You have to pay close attention to changes in the market. Most people miss that
CNet used to be a reasonable place to go for research a good few years ago - not these days. I'm sure they know very little about cars.
These reviewers are clueless on why the Prius series is superior. The Prius uses proven and tested conservative ultra reliable time tested technology, not new jazzy slam whizz bang flash in the pan fads. They don't consider economy of scale. Large scale production bring the price down, both in new cars and in the aftermarket. While dealer sold replacement parts look maybe very expensive, because of the reliability of Prius parts, used parts salvaged parts are usually sold for less that those for a lot of conventional vehicles. Try that for their list of limited production models.
There is a 2019MY Volt. I think it even got an upgraded charger for this year. Well, they did review the Rav and Prius. Doesn't look like they did the Corolla hybrid yet. This is CNET. Not having Android Auto, or Carplay in some cases, was probaly enough to keep Toyotas off the best list.
Are you actually using that emoji as intended? The site was worse than what other review sites use as qualifiers for such lists. My comment was a guess on why the Prius may not have made it based on the little they did say, right there at the top, under the title. "One of the most interesting drivetrain developments of recent times, hybrids turn wasted kinetic energy into electricity and use it to help drive cars. Hybrid technology can be applied to any type of car, and the best show the most significant fuel economy improvements over a similar gasoline-only car. As a complement to the high-tech hybrid drivetrain, these cars should also carry the latest cabin electronics and driver assist features." This is what they said about the Ioniq, "On the tech front, the Ioniq{SEL} comes well-equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus HD and satellite radio on a 7-inch touchscreen. Hyundai's infotainment systems are consistently intuitive and easy to use, and in the Ioniq, it's business as usual." This about the Prius, "For all the technology under the hood, the Prius' in-car tech disappoints because it's far more basic than what you get in rival cars -- things like the Honda Insight, Hyundai Ioniq and Kia Niro, for instance. ... But the system doesn't offer modern tech like Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, nor does it even offer built-in navigation or satellite radio. Those last two features are offered on the Prius Limited, which uses an 11.6-inch touchscreen -- but that system isn't available even as an option on any other Prius trim. And the Limited is not available with AWD-e." How comments here are positive for Entune? The review was positive about the AWD-e. So having to give it up to get features on competitors mid trims probably didn't win the Prius any points. The Ioniq was 4 stars, as was the Insight vs. 3.5 for the Prius on that site. I see the NSX and Outlander are 3.5 stars. Perhaps the list is their top pick for a segment. For the Rav4 hybrid reviews, they just have 2016 and 2017. It's a new design for 2019, and the bigger reviewers likely are getting press cars first. The site 'clunky'. I won't be using it.
I guess their list makes more sense as ratings of self-driving iPads. However, that's like rating smart phones based on their color options.
I always found CNET to be anti Prius on their youtube reviews. Often referring to them as cheap, soft/hard plastic budget cars, complaining about the lack of "feeling" or "numbness" or lack of "fun" its like they expect the Prius to be a performance sports car and thats not the intention of the car. I find car reviewers like Alex On Autos and Car Angel to be the best reviewers to go by.
Gasp, the Prius is utilitarian. Also distinctive, ugly, roomy, efficient, reliable. Now why would a car reviewer want to drive a car like that when he can have more fun driving a 600 HP car he didn't pay for.

Each of their best hybrid listed is from a different segment. Cnet just felt the Ioniq was better than the Prius.
