We just bought a 2006 Prius Package 7 -- WE LOVE IT! We couldn't wait to install our new cell phones. We've enjoyed our generous AllTel cellular family plan & service for 12 years & soon I bought a Motorola E815 (my husband bought a Motorola RAZR) that the salesperson was sure would work in the Prius. I've just been told by Toyota that AllTel phones won't work with our Prius, but select phones from Cingular, Nextel, Sprint, T-Mobile or Verizon will work. No one else can match our AllTel service plan and we hate to give it up. Is there a way to "fix" our Motorola phones so they will work without having to change cellular service providers? Is anyone successfully using an AllTel phone, and if so, which make/model? If not, what cellular service providers and what phone make/models do Prius People like best? Is there a poll reflecting such a survey? If not, let's create one! Thanks!
we have kyocera slider remix phones with an alltel plan, and DH regularly uses his to test bluetooth connections on priuses at work. it connects no problem.
Is it the E815 that they are saying will not work? I have had both an E815 from Verizon and an E816 from Amp'd mobile working just fine with my PRius. The only thing that will not work with Verizon is the phonebook transfer. I am not sure if Alltell disabled the phonebook transfer like Verizon did. You should be able to pair either the E815 or the RAZR with the Prius with no problem. Depending on how tech savvy you are, you can check out www.howardforums on how to modify the phone to get it to work with certain features.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Renocat @ Sep 8 2006, 04:41 PM) </div> * * * * * Thanks for your response. Toyota is telling me that it is the cellular service PROVIDER that is crucial, not the make/model of the BT cell phone. Toyota referred me to "Let'sTalk.com", who referred me to AllTel, who referred me to Motorola, who referred me back to Toyota!! This time Toyota suggested I check online Lexus info -- phones that work with Lexus will work with Prius. I found AllTel Razr V3c and V710 listed for use with Lexus. I called AllTel Tech Support again & was told "these AllTel phones are only partially compatible". They WISHED they had the necessary technology that the larger cell phone companies do. She said NO AllTel phones were fully compatible for use in the Prius. Enough users are saying their AllTel phones will work, so I need to find someone who KNOWS how to pair, test & train us to use our phones with our Prius. Our Toyota dealer does not have such a tech support person. Any other suggestions would be appreciated since my Motorola E815 exchange period ends 9/11. Thanks again!!!
I guess it depends on what your definition of "works" is. I cannot speak to alltel service, but the E815 with Verizon works well with the car. I can make and receive calls through the car. The bluetooth connect starts as soon as start the car. When I have an incoming call, the radio cuts out and the car rings from the front left speaker. I have auto answer set on the phone so I just say hello to answer. The only thing that does not work on the E815 is the phonebook transfer.
