What is your miles/kWh (total average electricity consumption) on the "Drive Monitor 2"

I am at 5.2 miles/kWh. Bought the car 3 weeks ago (fantastic vehicle!). I do a fair amount of EV highway driving and I can eke about 38 miles of pure EV range under those conditions.

    Question:
Does this number also take into account the consumption during EV while in HV mode? As a hypermiler who uses P&G extensively (even in the highway), I'm afraid the number might be inflated because when I am in EV, I am purely gliding.

I can get ~38 miles of range purely EV (comes out to 4.3 mi/kWh with the 8.8kWh). So the 5.2 is really suspicious and I suspect it also takes into account the times I glide. So it would be getting "subsidized" by gas in a way.
    Thoughts?

No. miles/kWh reported on Drive Monitor 2 and Eco Diary are only for pure EV drive under EV mode.

You do not have 8.8kWh of battery capacity for EV drive. The actual full EV mode battery capacity is not published, but it is estimated from various reports here. It is somewhere between 5.2kWh to 5.8kWh.

Yeah but if you’re not using EV mode to accelerate, then your numbers will be inflated.

Please take a look at my Prius Chat post from Sept 4, 2018:

Energy Consumption: A Data Point | PriusChat

My calculations are based on actual kWh used to charge the vehicle as measured at the electric panel serving the EVSE in my garage.

It worked out to 0.209 kWh per mile which translates to about 4.8 miles per kWh. (Given my high local electric rate, the electric cost per mile is about the same as the gasoline cost per mile.)

My driving pattern is primarily short trips in city traffic and the calculation was made during the month of August 2018 during which the air conditioning would be in use virtually all of the time. And keep in mind that my figures are based on kWh delivered to the vehicle and do not take into account any losses in the Prime's charging circuits or battery.

Obviously, this can become a very theoretical (and theological) discussion.[/QUOTE]

Very interesting data point. Is it possible to look up the Monthly Eco Diary data "miles/kWh" for the month this 501 miles of EV drive took place? The 501 miles you drove may not exactly coincide with a monthly data, but given the fact that you calculated 4.8 miles/kWh from the wall charger, the number reported by the vehicle should be higher than 4.8kWh/miles.

My monthly average miles/kWh fluctuates widely from month to month. See the graph below for two years of monthly average record. Lowest I got was 0miles/kWh for one month when I did not charge at all thus no record of EV drive. If I exclude this month, lowest value has been 3.1 miles/kWh in winter months, and the highest is 7.3miles/kWh I recently got. The average of all monthly miles/kWh is 4.55 miles/kWh, which is very close to the value 4.6miles/kWh I was seeing on DIM2.

Dropped to 12.9kWh/100km (4.84miles/kWh). I started in Jan with 15kWh/100km (4.16miles/kWh) so I have another month to lower it before it gets cold again.

I’m trying. It’s not hot but I’ve been getting the traction battery cooler message. I’ve actually encountered the battery cooler running this afternoon. I plugged into a public charger and the green light on the charging part was on but the blue lights were not blinking. I can hear the fan running to cool the battery before it started charging.

Yeah, I can relate to the same experience so much so I do not get bothered with it anymore. More often than not, the in-car charger remains in that state for a few minutes before it finally begins to quickly ramp up to amps to max rate.

Anyhow, the days are definitely getting shorter and the temps in my area have begun to slip downward in my area.
As sad as it is, at least now I know what the upper limit for my average miles/kWh looks like.
Now, to find the lower limit... :sneaky:

It's rare that I don't get the battery cooler message. LOL! Somehow, I'm managing close to 30 miles EV even though highs are still in the 90s here. Yesterday the GOM started out at 32.X with AC and 35.x w/o AC. But with the 10" of rain in three days, that helped moderate temperatures. We're back in the 90s again, though. I am SO ready for winter to see what this will do, although I suspect that when I got it in March was probably the best temperatures.

After playing with the A/C settings, lights and big screen I'm getting over thirty miles in the morning and around twenty-seven in the afternoon. That is enough for full EV round trip commute. I just need to not be so lazy in the evening and plug the car in for the morning commute! :(

If you haven't already done it, just schedule the charges and then you can plug in when you get home and just forget about it till you leave in the morning. One thing that helped me is getting an L2 EVSE for at home that I can leave in place so I don't have to mess with the OEM EVSE which I take with me to work. Not having to coil and uncoil the cord makes a big difference for me anyway.
