What is the political makeup of Prii drivers?

If you think about it, the Prius is a great car for both viewpoints. For Liberals, it appeals to the green/save the earth side because of its low emissions. For Conservatives, it appeals to the money saving side because it sips gas.

Finally, something we can both agree on.

And yes I bought the car to save money! She drives it 50 - 75 miles a day round trip home, work & gym.

I didn't know there were any conservatives that were interested in saving money. Well, not in our nations capital anyway. I remember the tax and spend liberals. They were just a tad (a tad is a conservative measurement) better than the no tax and spend conservatives.

There should be a choice 'Apathy". How many people don't vote any more because they don't think it's worth the time and no matter which party gets elected the government is still a circus.

I'm left of Rush Limbaugh but right of Lenin. Lots of room to stretch out.

I am reminded of something said just after WWII, by a British writer about American Democracy.

To paraphrase: :wacko:

American democracy will lead to self-policing mediocrity. Why? One must use the analagy where a wheat field represents the masses of people in the country.

For tyrants, controlling the people means that if one wheat seed head is higher than the others, it is easy to see and can just be lopped off. That keeps the wheat field looking orderly, but no one excels, and all threats are dealt with to keep the tyrant in power.

At some point the American definition of democracy will transcend politics and the population will, through guilt or shame begin to limit themselves. The "wheat stalks" will look around see that they are taller than others around them, and cut themselves off because being too tall makes one stand out, which is wrong. So excellence begins to be replaced with mediocrity, and mediocrity becomes the tyrant.

I am disgusted with libertarians, conservatives and liberals. :angry:

It boils down to elitists trying to control the rest of us by monopolizing resources (energy, water, etc) to make a buck, and making us just dumb and scared enough to go wherever the pop culture wind is blowing at the time, and limit ourselves so we don't threaten their positions.

Reality is much more interesting and complex than the world most of us seem to live in. Even with the danger in today's world, freedom is much more important than any other resource we have in this country. I am sad that it is being slowly monopolized by the few in the name of security, just like our other resources.

I have finally bitten the political bullet. I am a registered Republican. I voted that way in the past because I believe that big government is the least efficient way to solve problems. I'm all for getting politicians out of my pocket (and yours too). I believe in tax cuts for the rich. Rich people invest their money in order to make more money. This creates jobs for those willing to work. I never have gotten a job from a poor person, and I probably never will. I am totally against a welfare state. Give me something for nothing and I am liable to take it. I might even begin to depend on your generosity and expect something for nothing. To make a long story short, I voted for Republicans because I believed that Democrats gave money away to people in order to keep them on the hook election after election. After witnessing the last Congress and the present administration in action, I now believe that Republicans waste almost as much money, if not more, than Democrats. The Republicans have lost my vote because I no longer see them as the lesser of two evils.

I have always been a Libertarian at heart. Now I vote that way. I realize that I am helping to elect Democrats by denying the Republicans my vote in much the same way that H. Ross Perot voters denied Bush 41 a second term and propelled us to eight years of William Jefferson Clinton. Democrats will continue to win nationally until they raise taxes to such a level that the free market won't bear another rate hike. It really boils down to "it's the economy, stupid".

Libertarians will never win nationally because fiscally conservative Americans seem to cherish safety way more than true freedom these days. The Moral Majority and the Republican Base are for freedom, as long as freedom is aligned with their way of "right" thinking. Their War on Drugs is still raging, and will be 50 years from now as long as we keep on keeping on the way we have been for the last twenty years.

Libertarians will never win nationally because freedom loving liberals are under the seemingly misguided notion that government can solve social inequity. The War on Poverty is still waging, and will be 50 years from now as long as we keep keeping on the way we have been for the last fifty years.

Wake up America, taxation is stealing from hard working, smart Peter to pay not so hard working, not so smart Paul. As a result, Paul has no incentive to get smarter or to work harder, and Peter keeps right on paying more and more in the most inefficient way.

Wake up America, social legislation is stealing the very liberty we say we cherish. Please don't enact legislation that protects me from myself. Please allow me to be responsible for me.

 

I'm for a country where we can do what ever we want as long as it doesn't hurt another.
Examples:
1. Own all the guns you want, but if you shoot or kill someone in a criminal act, you go to jail Period.
2. Grow, Buy, Sell all the drugs you want, If you have an accident and injure or kill , see #1.
3. Abortion..... Absolutely.I just dont want to pay for it.
4. Homosexuals have as much right to use their "partners" healthcare coverage as you do.
5. Any others you have, feel free to insert.
I'm so liberal I'm practically an anarchist LOL...

Oh, BTW, I'm a christian and don't personally believe in doing most of the above. I just think that the people should be free to choose for themsleves.

 

My aunt told me about some survey she read that said most prius drivers are conservative! I was surprised.

 

1/6 Libertarian: People should be responsible for their actions. Free, merit based education, minimal welfare. Free prevention based healthcare. NO to corporate welfare.
1/6 classical Republican: Tax and Spend, (or spend and send the debt to the next generation) sucks.
2/3 Environmentalist, anti-fascism, anti-institutionalized religion

This made for an apathetic voter, until bush came along. Nowadays I am just anti-republican.
