I've been following this thread and promised myself I would stay out of it. Oh well, so much for unfulfilled promises.

    Answers to:

    2. The Great GWB, Sure shot Cheney and Rummy told us the Taliban were involved. That's who we attacked and "eradicated" in Afghanistan. Seems like Taliban and Al-qaeda were almost interchangable words back then. Except ... after 4 years, the Taliban is still there. Aaaah, so is Al-qaeda and Osama.

    3. In one flavor or another, the 9/11 attack was fortold in intel GWB was given before the attack but all he could do was look like a deer in the headlights when he got the word of the 9/11 attack.
Hey, Clinton had some intel about that as well. There's plenty of blame to go around.

    4. Refer to answer for #3 - the intel was ignored before.

    5. U.S. law should pertain to anyone being held by U.S authorities especially when we bring them to U.S. soil. Our operatives should be held to the same standards as police and other internal law enforcement agencies and all U.S. laws apply. If we do like our enemies, we've become the enemy. If there had been open communications between the intel agencies, maybe they would have connected the dots and foiled 9/11. We'll never know. :(

The mission in Iraq (which changes objectives faster than a speeding bullte) has just about come full circle.

    1. Weapons of Mass Destruction .... Didn't find any

    2. Unseat Saddam - To quote GWB "Mission Completed"

    3. Improve the infractructure - Naaaa ... Iraqis get less electricity service now than when Saddam was in power. Don't blame the insurgency either - GWB was told that insurgency was a real threat after the fall of Saddam.

    4. Bring stability to the Iraqi people - if you can agree stability means that 100+ Iraqis die each week ( or is it each day) in the undeclared civil war then by gosh, we have stability! Ok, this time you can blame the insurgency.

    5. Bring democracy - Well, sort of. The question is how long will the democracy last. Are you a betting man? ;)

    6. Waste a very good army designed with incredible technical superiority by putting them in a lose-lose situation in another countries civil unrest and making them targets for EIDs and insurgents - big success :(

I think GWB's next revelation will be to look for WMDs in Iraq. Now there's a unique idea.

One last thing. Nothing but praise for our armed forces over there and if you think I am dis-associated from the mess there, I have a brother and sister in law over there now. :(

All in all, I'd have to say all our successes are at best minimal. Most real security experts will tell you, the country is no safer today than after 9/11. So what was it all for again??

A yes or no would be best for someone as simple minded as me.

With the latest desicion, yes. If we disagree, we should pursue the issue diplomatically.

I think you hit the nail. You can not be simple-minded about these things. Diplomacy is a feint, within a feint, within a feint. If you charge, you get skewered.

I am still not understanding you. We should or should not ever place American interests above a UN decision/action and ignore the UN?

The US should never be able to place its interests above a UN decision/action/vote?

Of course we should be able to do that. But not indiscriminantly unless we completely want to burn our bridges at the UN and only in times of imminent danger/threat to the US and its interests. Iraq posed no such imminent threats, thus we had time to take other courses of action.

Only with the same certainty that you know it was the correct decision...and based upon the same data. The thing is this...I felt it was wrong before we went in, most of my beliefs about why we shouldn't have been confirmed since we went in.

You thought it was the right thing to go in before we did and despite massive evidence showing it was the wrong thing to do, done the wrong way, and for the wrong reasons you still argue that it was right. Go figure.

And your defense is to change the arguement to some other subject, to claim some 'mystery' information that has just never been revealed or to make personal attacks against the poster to divert the subject away from the key points.

So what? US deaths in World War II far exceeded US deaths in Pearl Harbor.

There also have been fewer deaths of US personnel in Iraq than the number of murders in the state of California since we took down Sadam. And far more people die from drunk drivers each year than will ever die in Iraq.

Err..there's a few more Americans in California or in the US than there are in Iraq. Its one of those proportional things....

Besides, a kind of death does not excuse another.

What's that got to do with anything? We have a police force and justice system to hunt down and try those responsible for the U.S. murders. We should do the same for those responsible for this illegal war.

And what exactly is Legal war? You liberals are the entire problem with the world today. Politians decide to go to war, but once that choice is made they should be totally removed from any decision making. Once you go to war you go to win, and all decisions should then be left to the generals. And only given back to the politians once victory is in hand. We should have learned that from Patton in WWII and learned how bad things go when you don't go to war to win in Viet Nam. So stop you're F#%(*ing whining, once you go to war you don't attack the president - you support the troops. What you fail to recognize is there is a reason to be in Iraq. You may not like the fact that you were told one reason and there was another. Those people (yes terrorists) goal is to kill all Americans (Liberal, Conservative, black, white, or other) and we had better kill them before they come to kill us. So take a chill pill and be happy that we have brave soldiers that are there to save your sorry lame nice person that just likes to complain.

So do something constructive with ur time and stop bitchin about the war... I suggest u suit up and join the vols that are fighting these islamo nazis overseas and not in ur back yard.... but then again that would be against what all thoes dems are about.. better yet just sit on ur nice person and I will take care of it for u as I have been for the past 25 years in the USN!

    We attacked a country unprovoked.
    How American of you.
Or rather the generals the politicians choose to listen to.
I'm supporting the troops by attacking the nitwit that sent them into a stupid unnecessary and ILLEGAL war.
There was no threat from Iraq against us. On the other hand, there was and continues to be a threat from OBL, who we aren't going after in any meaningful way.
