Due to rear rattle noise on my prius prime, brought it to the dealer to have them inspect it. They hear the rattle and confirmed its coming from the rear. But they can't find what's causing the rattle, so they said they will replace both rear shocks. Everything is still under warranty. Do u guys think they really tried or just decided to replace the rear shock. My concern is it might cause another issue in the future and i no longer have warranty. Currently @ 26k miles. Thanks.
Replacing the shocks will cause no problems (and you will have slightly newer shocks). You have established the warranty problem of a rattle in the hatch area, and if new shocks do not fix it they can keep looking. With your claim for the rattle prior to the end of the warranty period, they are obligated to keep working to fix that problem after the warranty period, because it occurred while in warranty. If the problem is not cured with the new shocks, immediately notify them so they won't claim it is fixed.
Mine rattled slightly but I don’t think it’s the shocks. It could be the bolts or it could be the CFRP itself. (Where the pieces are bolted together)
after trying felt pads on those hatch stopper and other areas that seems to rattle, I gave up and brought it to the dealer. I think its not the shock either but they will replace it for free.
Update: Dealer replaced both rear shocks and the rattle noise is gone. But the dealer claimed that the spare tire which I attached behind the seat is the one causing the noise. I attached it using strap (with metal buckle) behind the rear seat where it latches to a piece of metal. but I told them that I removed the spare tire and it still has rattling noise. They even confirmed it that's why they decided to replace the shock. Anyway, so far no more noise.
Good job. You'd think they'd have removed it to see if that was it themselves rather than just saying that the spare was the problem without knowing it was the problem. BTW, I have my donut spare secured the same way and have no rattle.
