i just went through 2+ months of research for a 2006 package 3 prius. my friend helps me make a database of 97 dealerships around this area so we could fax/email them and make them compete for my business. read through 118 emails. finally get 3-4 places that are willing to give me a fair price (at msrp, no additional fees, just add tax and tags) with the color and package i wanted, before the september 30th tax cutoff. went through capitalone for financing and was set with a certified check...

but as god would have it, i just found an apartment in the best city in the world. no more need for the prius. until, perhaps, next year... but maybe toyota will start building more of these babies and we won't have to pay msrp?

i have all this information available though! so if anybody needs the database or even the names of the dealerships that had priuses in their lot now, please personal message me or write back to this post, and i'll fwd it to u. someone should benefit from all this labor. it's nyc, nj, pa, con, and delaware.

special thanks to adam edwards from ardmore toyota in philly. if anyone needs to buy a toyota in that area and wants to deal with someone who is honest, amiable and full of integrity drop him an email: ([email protected]). seriously went above and beyond to help me out. never thought i'd call a car salesperson honest after the experiences i went through with the other dealerships. but adam was honest with me from the beginning and even suggested other options for me when he couldn't get what i wanted in time. i got nothing but the highest praise for him.

so... anybody know good bikes for the streets of new york? :)

    ::EDIT::
i attached the list of dealerships in the area for the people who wanted it. it's good to be an informed consumer. it's incomplete - didn't get a chance to input the emails i found. good luck to everyone!

Congrats on your new job in NYC! Personally, I'd be more likely to rely on the subway system with a monthly MetroCard than to commute via bicycle.

thank you! as much as i love ny's public transportation, my home will be less than a mile away from the area i'll work in. it'd take me the same amount of time via subway or walking. so i figure why not just get the extra exercise :)

maybe i should start a new thread for this but does anyone know when the new models of prii will be coming out? i've heard rumors of plug-ins for 2008.

    Hello,
This is Adam Edwards. I just wanted to mention that I no longer work for Ardmore Toyota, and I have been lucky enough to start my own business that helps many people get the correct information to make a wise purchase decision without the typical run around from dealers. If you would like my assistance I can be contacted at my personal email which is: [email protected]
I have a website in development and there is brief information about my services located at
    www.vehicleinsider.com
    Thanks,
    Adam Edwards

    Adam,

I am shopping for '07 or '08 Prius. I went to my first dealership near me (NY) to test drive. I negotiated with sales rep and finalized at $200 over invoice. It was a '07 prius package 3. MSRP was $25,700.The negotiated price was $23,450. I didn't buy it because I wanted to research their price. When I checked Edmunds, it showed the invoice at $22,800.
Seems like what the sales rep said was invoice, wasn't the same as Edmunds. I didn't have any print out from the dealer,he was showing me the price based on his computer screen.

WHat;s the best tactic to get true invoice from dealer? Do you suggest bringing in copies of Edmunds' invoice and asking them for a print off. Also, should I mention holdback with sales rep? Some ppl say yes others no?

Should I wait until late November mid December to buy Prius or will deals be better now?

    What's your take?

Edmunds may not include the destination fees. That could be the difference...
Ask the MANAGER to print out the invoice from the DEALER DAILY system.
DEALER DAILY is the system that Toyota uses to track inventories online. All the information that you will need to feel comfortable will be printed on that sheet.
$200 over invoice is a very fair deal for both you and the dealer.
Don't ask for holdback money on a Toyota.
The dealers need that money to help finance their floorplans, and to maintain inventories.
Hope this helps! Also you may want to wait to the last day of the month. That is generally when the most agressive deals are made.
