Check hybrid system stop a vehicle in a safe place immediately

This can happen from them temporarily disconnecting something while they did their work. Ask them to clear the codes, and that might be the end of it.

i don't know if it will set that warning, but they often don't bleed the system properly.

who is they?

one thing that will set the warning is a clogged hybrid battery cooling fan. make sure the intake is clear, and have someone clean the fan.

 

Was this a Toyota dealer or at least a hybrid shop? Ordinary shops may or may not be able to read all the codes. If you got that message, there must be a code that generated it. Without the codes, it's just an expensive guessing game unless you see something obvious.

As for the battery fans, that would be a coincidence, but they are hyper-easy to access and clean on the PiP. Also, make sure there's nothing blocking the air intakes for the battery ventilation system as @bisco mentioned.

Oooh! Just a thought. If it's not a hybrid shop, I wonder if they drained the inverter coolant by mistake. I can imagine someone who didn't know what they were doing, draining that and going, "Oh! It has two drains." Then they drain the engine coolant and refill it while the inverter gets left high and dry.

 

Yeah, the timing is pretty suspicious. My guess is that someone new or not paying attention mistakenly drained the inverter coolant and you drove off without any which fried the inverter and they don't want to admit to a big mistake like that.

It probably didn't do the transaxle any good either, but there's a lot more mass to heat up there, so the inverter would go first. Hopefully, when they get it all back together you'll be a happy camper again. With a new inverter, which ain't a bad thing.

Well...I suppose I DO believe in coincidences. But maybe not in this case.
What do you do?
The same place that "might" of made a mistake, is now handling the warranty work on your inverter. What are your options? If your lack of confidence is strong enough, I suppose you could cancel everything, and try another dealership.
Are you willing to go that far?

Whatever happened, you need the work being done now, done.
I might let them do it...and hope for the best.
They aren't going to admit to making a mistake. You aren't going to be able to prove it wasn't a coincidence. The choice is yours.

 

I can't see how a thermostat problem could be related to an inverter failure. They are two totally different systems. If there was coolant in both reservoirs, then it was most likely just interesting timing. That can and does happen. I'm glad that you'll get to drive it a while before you hit the road to come back to FL.

Somewhat familiar. I've bought five Prii from him so far and sent two friends there who bought from him. You could say I like him.

He told me the other day that he's getting a little overwhelmed with repair work and has had to turn away a few jobs. That says a lot about his service and quality, but he sure could use another skilled mechanic. Naturally, he gives priority to people who bought their cars from him though. I'm sure he'd have been able to fix you up better than what just happened.

 

So I probably shouldn't mention that he has a Prime Advanced and a Prime Premium right now. (He had one or two other Primes the other day, so we're starting to get some out on our streets finally.)
