I JUST GOT MY PRIUS PRIME ADVANCED FRIDAY VERY HAPPY 2 QUESTIONS MAYBE YOU CAN HELP THE HEAD UP DISPLAY SHOWS HALF OF THE SPEED SECOND NUMBER HOW DO YOU GET THE ENTUNE APP SUITE FOR THE PRIME ON THE IPHONE
HUD adjustments are listed from p.238 of the manual. P.241 is what you need to move the HUD image up/down and left/right, I think. I have no idea about iphone Entune set up. The set up in Android was as simple as following the on screen instructions. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
First of all, you need to make sure you sit at the usual position/sitting cushion/additional lumbar support. Then you press the arrow buttons on the steering wheel to get access to the HUD menu. You can't make HUD display left or right but you can certainly make it higher or lower.
I kind of have to move my head a little more to the left. I figured it was just me, as my left eye has never been as good as my right.
Is the HUD a feature in the Prime that is worth it? ie: are people really using it daily or is it just a novelty, you use it once or twice to try it, but ultimately, it's not that useful as a daily feature?
For the speed reading, yes. Anything else, not really. First of all, the tiny turning indicator on the HUD gives you much less information than a map. Sometimes especially in the city, you need to look at the map instead. I live in a city where 25mph is strictly reinforced. The speed reading on the HUD is valuable so that I can kind of set a cruising speed around the speed limit easier. Bottom line is that if you wear sunglasses, you can't really see the HUD.
It's just second nature to look at it now. Yes, it's used daily, and I miss it when I drive another vehicle in our "fleet". Heck I miss keyless entry the most in my truck though! It gives you great info IMO and your eyes stay on the road as opposed to looking at dash or iPad map in traffic.
I use mine all the time, it's how I tell how fast I'm going and how "Eco" I'm driving at the time. Yes, the info is in other places, but nothing nearly so convenient! I wear sunglasses and have no problems seeing the HUD, it's actually pretty bright.
The HUD is brilliant. I wish it showed more detailed information like some German cars, but it's a Prius, so I'm really happy with it. A lot of people think it's a gimmick, but when the main speedometer is in the middle of the car I get annoyed. That's where the HUD comes in. I never turn it off.
AFAIK, from my photography experience, if one places a polarizing filter OVER another polarizing filter (meaning here, sunglasses), it cancels the polarization effect. Maybe I'll try finding polarized film and laying it over the dash projector and moving it in 90 degree increments to see what happens when wearing my prescription polarized sunglasses. And as luck would have it, American Science and Surplus is within my Prime EV driving range and back. Note: this experiment, if they sell it, could take me weeks or months to carry out, as time permits. My glasses cancel the visibility of the HUD in daytime, almost completely. see also: Maybe? Has anyone ever tried this?
No. And what you are planning won't work. Your camera experience isn't relevant because that's almost certainly with circular polarization. The fact that the HUD reflects off the window means the light becomes linearly polarized. Many sunglasses are also linearly polarized specifically to block glare from reflections off things like water and glass. If you can get unpolarized sun glasses they'll be compatible with the HUD.
Warning about HUD. If you change your windshield and purchase an after market one the HUD may not line up just right.
My only issue with the HUD is it often shows the wrong speed limit in my area. I have the 2018 SD card, so it should be correct, but it's off by 10mph in many places. I wish I could disable the pop up on the HUD. Otherwise I like the HUD. shows you warning symbols, directions without having to look down, the power gauge, how many miles left on battery, etc. I just dislike the speed limit notice (only because it's wrong many times)
The speed limits displayed are from the data on the SD card. There may be two issues here. I popped out and took a look at my 2005 DVD years ago. As I recall it had a Toyota copyright of 2004 and a GPS data copyright of 2003. So the data itself may be old. How quick or slow are the local authorities in notifying the GPS data providers of changes.
I was in REI shopping for some Smith sunglasses and had to explain to the very helpful clerk why I did not want polarized sunglasses--they block the heads up display which is actually a reflected projection onto the windshield. (I really like the Smith lenses, and I guess they cost that much because they can.) The speed limit and other route info are from the map in the nav system. When things change the existing map can't know that. We usually do not know the date the route info was collected for the map.
If you ever change your windshield, go OEM and do it at Toyota... if you look at a thread I have going for my 2010 Prius with Advanced Tech Package you'll see I'm going through a nightmare scenario after giving it to Safelite after a simple cracked windshield. They put on non-OEM glass and couldnt calibrate the Lane Keep Assist (LKA). Took it to Toyota, they couldnt calibrate it either so they put on OEM glass ($950) and calibrated it ($500). LKA Still wouldnt work (technically it calibrates, but the LKA doesnt function any more). I've had a new switch installed ($400), a new camera ($1600), and now they're saying its possibly the ECU ($1200) since its still not working. Insurance is covering it, but because both Safelite and Toyota have worked on it, they are pointing fingers at each other and I'm caught in the middle. The insurance company is only covering up to the switch and the camera (but those are being returned so I'm hoping they'll cover the ECU instead, its $800 cheaper overall anyway). The car has been at Toyota since July 2nd and supposedly an ECU is coming tomorrow... Moral of the story: if you have any special features on your car like HUD/Lane Keeping/Rain sensing wipers... just take it to the dealer and get OEM. Its not worth the headache! I really hope my car works this weekend, but I'm not holding my breath.
I have had my HUD at the very highest brightness for a while. I can see it pretty well with my polarized Oakleys on.
