Thule Roof Rack fit kit question

    I have a Thule roof rack with bike carriers that I used on my 1995 Subaru. Originally I bought it for a Nissan Sentra. When I moved to the Subaru, I only needed to buy a new fit kit to adapt the feet to the new roof line.

    Now I have a Prius 2012 and according to Thule's website, I need new feet (#480) and a new foot kit (#1566). I can keep my bars.

    In another thread here, someone mentioned that older Thule racks can be adapted using a #2124 fit kit, without the need to get new feet.

    Thule and most of its dealers want to sell a complete system, including bars, for over $300. Option one above, new feet and kit, would run $261; while just the 2124 kit would be $85.

    Anyone have first hand experience with adapting older systems?

    I know this is an old thread, but we just bought a 2009 Prius. I have a Thule XTR system we used on our '97 Honda. I'm trying to avoid buying a whole new system being over $420. Does anyone have recommendations on safely adapting or if the 480R system would work on this year.

    GABaker, Thule 480R would work on the Prius, as long as you have the correct fit kit - Thule 1533, from what I remember. It should work even with the glass roof, since no part of the rack would touch any glass surfaces.

    Thank you for your reply. After a lot of digging, I was able to locate a Fitkit 2142 which, from previous Priuschat threads, sounds like it will work. Very glad we don't have to waste the investment we already made in the Thule rack. Thanks again.
