My husband's friend, a retired aerospace machinist made it for me. He has made many Prius"v" modifications for me. It had to be precisely bored out to a specific depth.. A special stainless steel sleeve was machined and pressed into the cavity. It fits perfectly and is correctly spaced to function like the original on the "v."
Is the original v shift knob backlit the way a Gen 2's is? This one doesn't look like it has the light pipe opening around the shaft.
I saw this thread a couple years ago, and then discovered and purchased a modified Prius knob for my previous white Prius v. I recently bought a 2017 silver Prius v, and discovered an easy and cheap way to adapt a normal Prius knob (with 8mm threads) to our 6mm shaft. I simply unscrewed the standard Prius v shift knob (which I find tiny and weird), cleaned the threads on the shift lever, and screwed on one of these adapters. Then I bought a 2019 Prius knob on ebay, and it screwed right on. 2019 TOYOTA PRIUS SHIFT KNOB GEAR CENTER KNOB OEM | eBay I have 4 of the threaded adapters left, message me if you want one and I'll mail it to you.
The threaded adapters from the Amazon link above have internal M6x1.0 threads to fit the Prius v shift lever, and external M8x1.25 threads for the Prius Gen 4 knob to thread onto.
Thanks, I just consulted with my husband's dad's friend who modified the Gen 4 knobs. Putting an M6x1.0 thread inside an M8x1.25 stud is very difficult tn machine. The threads must be rolled onto an M6x1.0 threaded sleeve. Nice find.
My 2013 Prius v's shifter head has lost a lot of its silver paint after 106k miles. As an Uber driver, I use the shifter a lot more than most people do. I might consider doing this, just to get a nicer looking shifter head.
Yeah, the Gen 4 shift knob has a durable rubber vinyl covering instead of the thin silver painted white plastic like the OEM v knob. The black grip covering is all the way through, so it will not rub away, It is a much more durable design.
