Any instructions on mouse-proofing the Prius v?

I did my V about a year ago, the gen2 instructions will work for you.
Just be very careful to stay away from the exposed bottom edge of the windshield while you are working and when you replace the cowling
Hard to remember but I believe there is one less opening in the cowl area compared to the gen2.
Make sure you do the engine air intake too.
Please let Toyota know you are PO'd that you have to go through this nonsense.

 

I'm not very bold when it comes to yanking apart brand new things either. I just removed any bolts that held the side pieces then pulled the pieces free from their push in connectors. That gave me enough room to attach the screening.
I say give it a go, if I did it so can you.

 

First thing you do is don't feed the dogs in the garage where you park your car. Every car my father in-law has owned ended up having dog food in the car engine air filter, cab filters, etc. When I purchased my used Prius I noticed the previous owners were feeding the dogs in the garage and when I got home I looked in the cab filter and in was full of dog food. For some reason the mice like using air intake circuits for food storage.

 

Does the Prius v (2014 in my case) have the "many holes under the top grille and behind the water collection trough."? Just screening the 2 vent out-takes on the rear and the LARGE 7"x11"+- hole that drops down (presumably_ to the air-filter... Is there actually more in the Prius V, do i need to dig in and remove wiper motor etc? Not seeing anything overly clear.. Are there specific brands of rust proofing more proven than others to repel mice? I just received the car and live in the country.. mice run wild and I likely couldn't afford the quantity of poison required to control the number running around out there... Trying to sort out the car before I even bring it home. (Mouse droppings/holes found in air filter already, from parked 'in town').

 

My husband's older friend recommended that he applied rustproofing to my 2012 Prius v, and in 7 years, there is no trace of mouse or other intrusion. Evidently, the wiring is made of some type of soy based plastic which attracts rodents like food.

The application of and the overlay of a petroleum base film with it's slight odor apparently dissuades the rodents from wanting to chew on it.

I looked once at his old Ford truck with residue of acorns and other nut shells on the air cleaner housing and other places in the engine compartment. The rodent apparently used the engine compartment as a refuge from the cold, but never chewed on anything that had even the slightest petroleum coating.

In 50 years of having his cars rustproofed, he has stated that he has had no rodent chewed wiring or other parts on his vehicles.

 

That seems worthwhile to apply, problem I am having is the many different types of undercoating.. It would seem they are not all equally effective at keeping rodents away, or preventing them from chewing on the Toyota feeders(soy wire). I am in a rust prone area much of the year, so a quality undercoat would be nice as well. So many choices, I wonder what is most effective.. You can't really change it later as the 'goods stuff' never comes off easily. The :"environmentally friendly" more popular coatings might well attract the mice..

 

Yes. you need the rustproofing that is petroleum based.

Theres the big 12x7 hole not pictured in the model that article was written for, I really don't want to remove more if unnecessary. That and the 2 at the rear have been meshed..


Rumor is Krown and Transtar amber might repel mice; now I'm concerned about odor.. I do sleep in my car when traveling and many chemical smells give me headaches... Even parking next to a trucker with his engine running is a no-no if I'm down wind.
