I tried to use voice recognition this morning to navigate to Elliot Avenue, Minneapolis. This first attempt brought up an address in California. Second attempt got me to Kansas. Third attempt moved to Florida. Fourth and last attempt - back to Kansas. My rep at the dealer spent a little time with me training to car to my voice. Apparently we need some more speech coaching!
I trained my voice in the system. Same problem it was all off. Then the girlfriend tried the address, went right through.
Is advised to change your phone setting to Japanese setting, or just say keep current English and say "Please help me to work"?
Well at least you would get great gas mileage going to all of those places, so it wouldn't be a total disaster.
I think it's just a matter of the system getting used to someone's voice in English. Truthfully, I've only used it for a few functions, typically "Call" (ie, "Call Home", "Call Dad", etc). Also, remember to have as little noise in the cabin as possible (open windows and radio can screw up the voice recognition). (And you'd think with the way the Prime speaks with a Canadian accent [with its male training prompts voice actor], it would appreciate a midwest Minnesota accent! Go figure... )
Actually, I lived in NJ, Md, and Germany before I moved to MN so I don't think I have a midwest accent. I'm going to try to research if there is a way to do more training. I appreciate the ability to do things via voice rather than fumbling with the controls, so I'm hoping that she'll grow to understand me.
And the latest - Me: "Minnesota Arboretum" Prime: "Personal grooming" Are there odor sensors in the car?
Actually, behind the mirror there's a hidden camera pointed at you... and Kitt from Knight Rider has found a new home. For what it's worth, the microphone is located in the area by where the glasses-case/remote control holder is, to the right of your head. Not sure if it would help if you talked towards that or not...
I'm on my 4th Prius. I've always found using Entune navigation to be more awkward that my phone, but at least it shows up on my dashboard, and now in my HUD. Voice recognition is a joke, literally. I went through voice training, then tried to use it. Looking for directions to the Cheesecake Factory, I pressed the voice button, said "Navigation to POI Cheesecake Factory," and it responded with Eckerd Drugs (which no longer exists and never existed in my state). I tried a second time and it said "Day's Inn." A third time it said "Fast Food Restaurants." I ended up typing it in. Then we got to my 2nd and 3rd pet peeves about navigation. Part of the screen has a box with information about upcoming exits I'm not planning to take. On the drive it doesn't say "go 10 miles on the current road," it says "go 3.2 miles," then "go 4.3 miles," then "go 2.5 miles." It never shows you total distance; it breaks it up with every highway you cross.
My Leaf works OK. The Prius voice recognition sucks. The entire infotainment system is pretty mediocre.
