Gen 3 Prius exterior styling (the best so far?)

Is it just me or do most people find the looks of the gen 3 Prius as the best looking Prius of all so far?

With the exception of the gen4 prime, I think the gen 3 Prius looks way better than the gen 4 (and gen2 and gen1) if you want to go back.

I do a lot of driving so I’m always seeing different color and types of Priuses (mostly stock and some modified).

I can’t think of any other car manufacturer that has released a new gen model with exterior styling that pailed in comparison to previous model. I had to think for a bit too about that one (and believe me, I know cars).

Fingers crossed for the gen 5.

I think they are all unattractive. I sit inside the car, though, and the exterior looks don't bother me.

That said, the Gen 3 is the best of the bunch.

The Gen3 was good, but as you note, this is better:):

It was the best of its time, but the newer looks better to me(y).

I've always liked the look of the Gen III. I think the 2016 gen IV looks OK, while the '17 and '18 are quite unattractive. I like the '19, and think the prime has always looked great.

I like gen III best. Japanese styling is not so much my thing and the gen IV is a good example of that. Too much unnecessary edges, corners and bulges. IMHO the C-HR is ugly, that's what I mean with japanese styling.
Gen II is a bit too... soft, compared with gen III.

Obviously, this is purely personal taste, but I'd rank them best to worst as:
    1. Prime
    2. Gen 4 update
    3. Gen 4
    4. Gen 3
    5. Gen 1
    6. Gen 2

I was thinking about this today and thought Toyota did an excellent job in terms of styling.

To me, it gives the Prius its iconic “hybrid” look. We all know there are Camry, Corolla, and Rav4 hybrids now but as the first hybrid from Toyota ( and a model whose name usually comes to mind first when thinking of hybrids) , I think it’s look is not sleek (like a civic or accord) but has a sophisticated look to it.

If I could describe the words “eco-friendly” and “singular” in terms of a visual such as a vehicle, it would be the Prius.

well i think gen 3 is so liked becouse its just updated gen 2 plus it was designed before Auris Hybrid came to sale so Prius was only Hybrid so it has too be liked by most potential buyers. Gen 4 is love or hate design there is Corolla or Auris for those who need normal looking hybrid.

Personaly Gen 3 and Gen 4(pre-facelift) are most beautiful. Gen 3 becouse of its classic look, but Gen4(pre-facelift) is just so intrestlingly designed that its actualy looking really nice

Gen 3 Prius Plus Performance Package is the best looking of all Prii in my opinion.
Adding Persona Edition Side Mirrors would be the cherry on top.

The looks of the Gen 3 got me to buy one, of course along with the great mileage and reliability of a Toyota.

If Toyota releases an attractively styled EV that's competitive, then I will move on to that next.

I'm with you I think the 4th Gen looks like a steaming pile of dog doo. When I first saw it I thought it was just because it was new. But it still hasn't grown on me and the more I see it the less I like it. The rear end doesn't look like its supposed to go on the car at all, looks to me like it was taken off another model and slapped on, notice how Ray didn't post any picture of the cars rear end? LOL I think the front end has way to much going on as well, not nearly as bad as the rear end though. NOW, that being said, 4th gen interior is far better. The 3rd gen flying buttress is just awful and stupid, takes up way to much space. I'll be in the market to replace my '14 in a few years but I won't buy another prius unless they drastically change the design of the what should be the 5th gen by then.

Yeah .. I test drove a 2019 Prius at a dealer recently .. Loved the interior..

I drive my car a lot so I’m estimating I may need a new car around 2021 or 2022 so by then they should have the 5th gen out.. really eager to see what they do to that..

There are a lot of nice looking Gen 3s in Japan. I wish ours came with the side mirror signals!

Gen 2 to Gen 3 wasn't just an updated exterior; every dimension changed, the suspension specs are completely different (and different design in the rear), new interior design, significantly more wind tunnel testing (at the time, Toyota's press release stated that the Gen 3 had undergone more hours of testing than any other Toyota in history), beltless engine, smaller inverter, more compact motors with no chain, etc. etc. etc. It was a complete redesign.

US spec doesn't have that? European spec also has side mirror signals.

Prime was the first Prius that ever looked good to me. Front of the gen 3 looks better than front of the gen 4, but the rear of the gen 4 looks better in my opinion.
