Well, after 1+ years of wanting a Prius, I am finally picking mine up in about 5 hours...

What are some things I should look at/know about when picking it up?

What about filling it up with gas? Put it on the lowest setting, right?

Are there some cool 2006 hacks I am do (the backup beep, etc).

It is crazy....the day has finally come.

You should have plenty of time to research fill-up techniques as the car should be delivered with a fulltank of gas. Happy driving!

Should be delivered with a full tank.

I recommend a dash cover, hood and center console cover (from Priushoods at E-bay) as starters. Don't rush in and buy every mod suggested. First, learn to drive the car. Enjoy driving. As time goes on, and you read about upgrades here, go for it.

One other mod, because I'm in CA where it's hot, window tinting for the back and window shades.

Finally, welcome to PC and the family of Prius owners. Enjoy your new family member.

A big Amen on the hood. After that the 20" rear window wiper if you live where it rains!

Review and take with you a copy of the pickup checklist: http://www.vfaq.net/docs/pickup_checklist.html

Sit in it on the dealer's lot for a half hour and read the relevant sections of the owner's manual.

In the first 600 miles don't stomp on the gas or the brake and don't go faster than 65 MPH.
