So I got the check hybrid system check engine light on so I decided to go ahead and clean the hybrid fan which was dirty and reset the 12v battery and it cleared the check engine light drove it for over a hundred miles and it came back on again. I've kept up with maintenance with the Prius and got the EGR replaced under warranty. The good thing is when the check hybrid system came on the car was still drivable there was no misfires so hopefully it's just the Hybrid battery.

So since my 2010 Prius is still under warranty with the hybrid system I'm having it towed to the Toyota dealership service department. Just out of curiosity, has anyone had their Hybrid battery replaced under warranty? And how was your experience?

CEL doesn’t default to an issue with HV fan or battery. For a starting point, plug an obd2 reader to retrieve the code(s). Codes will tell you where to begin troubleshooting.

Or put your extended warranty to use :)

Unfortunately, I don't have a OBD2 reader. I was already having symptoms of my Hybrid battery discharging really quickly. I would be traveling on just electric and I can see on my dash the bar is going down one by one. I have a 130 k on my car ready.

when traveling on electric, that's what the battery icon does, you're using up the battery.

when the dealership pulls the codes, they will notify you of the problem. if it isn't the battery, hopefully it is some other warranty item, although there isn't much else left under warranty, emissions i think.

if it is the battery, you will get a new one on toyota. keep your fingers crossed!(y)

Yeah I understand that the battery icon does go down when you're on pure electric if it didn't then I have a super electric car lol but it shouldn't go down every second until it's down to the last two bars.. that's what I'm trying to say

Yes, fingers crossed on a new battery. But like my original thread says has anybody done a warranty exchange with their Hybrid battery?

yes, many have, but you'd have to search to find them, unless they come across this thread. but the title won't attract them

I didn't have the battery replaced under warranty, but my 2010 about 5 yrs ago had a failed inverter, which the dealer replaced totally for free under warranty.

I just had a "Check Hybrid System" today as well on my 2011 Prius with about 125k miles. It threw it this morning when I went out to leave for work. Car was totally unable to be put into a drivable state, although all the electrics came on which told me it likely wasn't anything to do with the 12V battery. I've had a totally dead 12V battery before and the car simply doesn't do anything in that state when started (no beeps, nothing).

Had it towed to the dealer who called and said it was the Inverter IPM that would need to be replaced, and would be no cost due to that IPM warranty extension that Toyota put out.

This just happened to me last night! Dealer is checking it out now and said they suspect what’s happening and that it’ll probably be fixed under warranty. I breathed a sigh of relief when he told me that. Still, I’m devouring threads about this issue in case it’s something else...
