Most Prius cars are faster than most coal rolling wrecks on the roads. Just sayin'.

Probably the opposite. Most of those hopped up diesels are quite quick - massive torque in those engines. I am certain that a stock F250 diesel would smoke my Prime in a drag race.

I dominate the fast lane going this fast which allows me to stay in it. At these speeds the people entering the highway create dangerous situations. The road bully pickup trucks won't let you over into the passing lane and the merging traffic can cause a collision. Not for me though I just speed in the fast lane, trucks can't keep up with me. I kick it up to 85 or 86 if I need to so a truck can't pass me.

Thanks for your concern, I get it. Look it wasn't an ideal situation but at the end of the day there's nut jobs out on the road and all I can do is try to stay safe. I thought the guy doing the flipping off was a mook and I just chuckle at the knuckle draggers I encounter out there on the wide open roads. You'll be happy to know this was the only time I've been flipped off this year so my stats are pretty good.

Just want to say I see some incredibly nice pickup drivers out there on the wide open roads. Great folks but there's definitely a few out there that have some insecurity issues they try to compensate for with massive trucks and aggression on the roads. I just chuckle when I see these people.

Apparently where you drive all the vehicles are road bully pickup trucks. I"ve done 20,000 miles in the last year and have had none of these problems. Just move with the traffic, change lanes where necessary, etc.

I'm fortunate to not be driving on any roads near you. I would fear for my safety if you were near me.

No speeding tickets, no accidents...I keep both hands on the wheel and keep my eyes peeled at all times. Go driving up in Michigan around Lapeer County to Port Huron and you'll see the bullies.

In the last six months, I've driven across California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, Maryland, DC, Pennsylvania, New York, Canada around lake Huron, the UP of Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota. Plus 1,000 km in Ireland. Not once did I see this problem, on either Interstates or the smallest back roads. I saw a lot of pickup trucks, but none were bullies.

    Perhaps you just attract trouble.

Yes. But I don't attract trouble there...

I learned something in high school drivers education a long time ago. A defensive driver takes notice of signals from other vehicles, such as brake and turn signal lights. At intersections a defensive driver pays attention to the motion of other vehicles, taking note of wheels moving or turning. At no time will I ever take notice of who (or whom) is actually driving said vehicle. Why would that ever be important to me.

This thread is getting better mileage than a future Prius Prime-squared BEV-matic hauling engineering students downhill to an energy conference.

    You guys rock.

Yes, but when it's NOT said person and you HAVE to take notice... ...usually it's not pretty.

When bicycling, I was trained to watch the drivers too, to see if they are paying attention to their surroundings and to cyclists. Two-way visual communication is important at crossings, and it is important to note which drivers are lost in la-la land.

Yeah..exactly! With the advent of text-while-driving, and god knows what else these days, it pays (depending on the situation) to observe what the other driver is doing. If you see a phone in their hand...stay *far* away. This actually saved me once. I kept my distance on a three lane freeway instead of passing a texter. Lo and behold...they swerved into the lane where I was about to pass. It's scary out there folks. (y)

Or texting-at-the-stoplight. Then you know when to toot, to wake them up when the light turns green.
