good afternoon! Here’s my symptoms. I believe it to be a front wheel bearing but thought I’d ask the experts. - road noise that fluctuates with speed - seems to have steady hum, fast “wha wha” and little bit of metallic type sounds - starts at roughly 25 mph - tires are fair but rotated recently with little change - when I turn left, the hum increases My friend who has worked on G2 Priuses swears that it’s the transaxle but I have my doubts. Thoughts? Thank you! Bobby
welcome! i think you're right. or a cv joint. not sure how to tell the difference. how many miles on her? bearings are always the prime suspect. sometimes figuring out which one without a chassis ear is the hard part.
I replaced both rear wheel bearings and it fixed the same problem for me. Search you tube for how to diagnose a bad wheel bearing. Then watch some more vids on how to easily do it yourself. I bought two NSK’s off rockauto for about 108 each. Now I need to work on the front ones. Mileage at time of replacement was about 175k. But they have been noisy for over a year.
