$70 for a synthetic oil change is pretty good. With a coupon, I can get the oil and lube done at my dealer for $39.99 sometimes, but they always try to find something else to tack on. Bait and switch.
Didn't have that problem at at the dealer, and they were free changes included with the car. Last time, they overfilled it by a quart.
That Subaru engine make me think about what a modern Corvair engine might look like. Flat 6 with an easy to change oil filter. Modern Subaru has pollution control equipment where the old Corvair had ignition equipment and carburetors.
For the fourth gen the Canadian oil change interval matches the US. Still, such arbitrary (and wide) skews in policy make me sceptical it's all engineers driving the changes.
Yeah, the only technical reason I can come up with is the climate extremes you have in many parts of the country. Those could lead to more water in the oil, which leads to the acid neutralizers being used up faster.
My independent mechanic STILL swears by 3K oil changes. He says it is not about him making $, but he honestly thinks it is best for the car/engine. He says that knowing that I usually change my own oil. I do respect him and I do think that he is not one of those out to cheat the car owner. As the site BITOG proves, oil changes are almost a religion.
My last service at Toyota was $112. Toyota sent me a survey. I mentioned the services being more price competitive. The service manager called me saying that I was out of touch with prices and they were on target! Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
I am happy. Not changing oil now until 5K and I think it will be a breeze with the Fumoto and the top-mount filter. I am doing pretty well since an accident essentially crushed my entire right side. Only issue is I still have trouble with full extension of right arm....but enough oil changes and that may change. kris
I did have to put some window washing fluid in the Tesla. Also, I had to clean both sides of the wiper blades and clean out to road grime where the wipers stop. I'd noticed in the built-in dash cam video that one swipe was clean but the return put a layer of road stuff to fuzzy up the video. Thanks to warmer temperatures, no need to add air to the tires . . . yet. Bob Wilson
Well, it is technically best since you are replacing the oil long before any of the additives get used up. But when was the last time he had seen an engine actually fail because of the oil being changed at just the manufacturer recommended intervals? Not turbos.
I feel guilty. I have not driven my Outback much at all. The beauty of retirement. I thought I would use it alot this summer, but so far, no. Well, lot of summer left. I will say that the base engine is a bit more anemic than I suspected, but it does the job.
