I noticed that several apps require some sort of ODBII to bluetooth adapter. Is that adapter an OEM or generic product? Is there a recommended brand? After installing the adapter and adding one of these apps on a smartphone, what Prius specific parameters can be checked? I have a ScanGauge and was wondering if I can view the individual battery cell voltages or diagnose cell problems with it or will I just get the trouble codes? The ScanGauge manual is pretty sparse in this area. Thanks in advance for any info on this.
tech stream is the gold standard, but it is not an app, you need a laptop. torque and elm are pretty good. i don't thing scan gauge will help much try dr prius, that has become popular, and the inventor is a member here.
I use this one on Dr Prius and Car Scanner and both give cell voltages. However hv battery life is more of an art rather than a science. Dr Prius tries primarily by seeing how fast it charges and discharges. Symptoms include reduced mpg by 4 or 5 consistently and fast discharges based on the bar graph, sometimes in a few minutes at a traffic light.
You can use scangauge but you must enter in the data one character at a time to set it up. Possible, but not fun. Just use a generic Elm 327 Bluetooth OBDII adaptor along with Torque Pro app. Total cost is under $30.
I thought that I would probably have to program each cell as an Xgauge command with the ScanGauge. I will look for the Elm BT adaptor and an app. Thanks for the info.
You can get techstream free online and the correct (knockoff) obd reader for like $12-20 on Amazon. I recommend this as it’s more necessary in my opinion. Especially if you will be doing some battery diagnosing. You might end up doing more etc. can’t hurt to get the proper setup.
