I hope I post this in the correct place I have a 2010 Prius with 160,000 miles My Daughters have a2011 with 259, 000 miles Both were bought new their Prius at about 190,000 started quivering on light acceleration and the fuel mileage dropped, no check engine light ever came on that’s been about a year ago. I found the egr cooler was completely clogged up along with the egr valve and intake intake egr circuits clogged . I cleaned all of this and it’s ran fine for 60,000 miles or so. It’s driven about 2 hours a day on open road now it’s started the same symptoms what’s the possibility of the egr valve just worn out after this many miles and not being clogged after only 60,000miles can the egr be checked?
I put our 2010 on the egr circuit cleanse program every 50k miles. The second cleanse was as clogged as the first one, so I thought 50k miles is appropriate . I’d say pop open the circuit again and see what you find.
Yeah check the pipe first, the easiest to access. An oil catch can might slow down the rate of clogging.
I cleaned mine @200k. Also installed occ at the same time. Now my car has 343466 miles and all of a sudden today morning check engine light came on also gas mileage dropped significantly in last few months. You’re cleaning solution looks really good. What did you use to clean all that parts? Hopefully I will do mine soon. Good luck to you.
Oil Catch Can It catches and traps oil from the pcv valve so it doesn't get sucked back into the intake manifold.
I just opened it today. It looks really bad. Will start cleaning on the weekend and hopefully that will take care of the problems
Wow that is pretty bad! As AGRDogman suggests in other threads, it might be wise to invest in a second set of parts (used eBay) so you can swap in clean parts, then clean the nasty ones at your leisure. But definitely add the catch can. -Spiral
