Hello! If you Can help me, you are smarter than all the mechanics I live around! I just bought a 2010 Prius 3 with 194k on it. No issues when test driving, got it scanned and everything came back perfect....so I bought it! Well 2 days after the purchase my check engine light came on and my engine made that scary sound that Prius’s likes to make when it misfires. I had my sparks and coils checked out and the mechanic ~claimed~ it was faulty plugs. So I had them replace the plugs (yes the correct ones are in). They said the coils were fine. And the check engine light turned off 100 miles later my engine starts misfiring again and the check is back on..I went to an actual hybrid car place to have my RVG (or whatever the heck it is) pipe and valve cleaned. Engine light turns off and then 100 miles later it’s back on again and misfiring! I cleaned the MAF sensor and made sure everything was connected correctly-it did nothing.. I just had it scanned again with the same code. I just bought this and I’m at a loss :///
Welcome to Prius Chat . There’s a shop about 50 miles or so south of you in Scottsburg called Auto be Yours. I’d give them a call, but it sounds like the egr circuit needs a thorough cleaning . Good luck and keep us posted .
You need to do the intake manifold and egr cooler. Otherwise the job is incomplete and the results will not be what you expect as there is still carbon buildup there. Good luck and keep us posted .
Did he plug everything back in? Have you checked? Something isn’t right and if everything is cleaned, my bet is something isn’t plugged in, or you have a gross vacuum leak. Good luck and keep us posted.
Basically double check all of their work. Wouldn’t be the first time that something was claimed done and something wasn’t put completely together correctly . Good luck and keep us posted .
Did you take this car to a Certified Toyota mechanic or a guy down the street. If the mechanic that worked on your car isn’t 100% familiar with the Prius, he might be in the dark about the idiosyncrasies of the Prius. The procedures for cleaning the EGR circuit can be quite extensive. They can involve removing the entire intake manifold for proper cleaning. Also, with than many miles, the EGR assembly may even be defective. At this point, the best thing for you to do is take it to a Toyota dealer and have them diagnose it. You might even ask the if there is any type of assistance available. You never can tell. I know that you’re in between a rock and a hard spot but I don’t see any other recourse at this point.
I took it to a place specifically for hybrid cars he says he’s done tons of Prius work and he also said that my Prius was the nicest he’s ever seen as a used car. Hopefully he just forgot to plug something back in
