2010 Prius with over 100K. Dealer just replaced 12v battery in April. My wife drove it 150 miles yesterday with no problems. Today it is stone cold dead. Took battery out and it read 1V. Put it on a charger and it cannot charge past 10%. AFAIK headlights were not on nor were interior lights left on. Is this a defective 12v battery and if it needs to be towed, how do we get it out of the garage and out of park?
My bad. Interior lights WERE left on fr 36 hours. This discharged the battery, completely! Given that it is a relatively new battery, will this damage the battery in any capacity?
It could be damaged from going so low, but at least the battery is under warranty. See if it takes a charge, and if not, then you'll need to jump start it according to the owner's manual using the jump start connection under the hood.
If It is a Toyota True Start battery, it should have a 84 month prorated warranty with full warranty for 24 months.
The battery should take a charge as long as it hasn't been dead for an extended period of time. I would put it on a small battery charger and walk away from it for maybe a day and see what it does.
Don't have the car towed. Just pull out the battery and take to a shop. They can charge it and tell you if it is bad. Have your receipt indicating date of purchase in case it is bad and they will prorate the cost of a replacement based on the warranty.
Even if it revives, it has been permanently damaged, and it's longevity is limited. See if you can get it replaced.
I am a novice, but will it not take a charge because your battery charger isnt recognizing it as a battery? I watched a video that the gentleman hooked up in line (daisy chain) a second battery so his battery charger would recognize that there was a battery there so it would charge.
