Hybrid hurry-up - Some buyers facing tax-credit phase-out By Jerry Kronenberg Monday, September 4, 2006 - Updated: 08:53 AM EST Jeff Rogers bought a new Toyota Prius this weekend specifically to beat a Sept. 30 deadline and qualify for a $3,150 federal tax credit. “If the government wants to give me more than $3,000 just to buy a car, I’d be a fool not to take it,†said Rogers, who plans to use his fuel-efficient Prius for a 130-mile daily commute to and from work. Car buyers like Rogers are scrambling to beat a looming cutoff for full tax credits on Toyota and Lexus hybrids. More: http://business.bostonherald.com/businessN...rticleid=155828
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(lev @ Sep 4 2006, 09:44 AM) </div> The sale of the prius above the MSRP negates the FEDS effort in promoting the sale of hybrid. I dealers are too gready to get all the money that the FEDS want to give the consumers. Ultimately, consumers get nothing out of the tax break.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Prius_NY @ Sep 5 2006, 07:42 AM) </div> The extreme demand on the vehicle with very low supply justifies "the markup" on the price. If you invested in gold and the market dropped, you can cry but you still have a commodity that's worth less than you paid. With the Prius, market demand commands the premium for taking delivery of the most advanced vehicle in production today along with all the benefits which should be a more environmentally friendly car vs. any financial advantages.
Hello everyone! This article in the Boston Herald was about me (Jeff). It only took about 10 days to get the car and I did not pay a dime over MSRP; actually I got a great trade price in as well. I recommend Boch Toyota and my salesperson Mark Hickey. I have learned a lot about my new car on this forum and I wanted to thank you all for the great info. Today is the first day that I have made my 130 mile commute and my tank average is 50.9mpg. I ordered the factory XM radio and fit kit for the car and my next purchase will be the body side moulding. I am hoping that coastal tech (or another company) will figure out a way to get a video input to the front screen on the 2006. Hopefully I will be able to contribute to the forum as I learn more about my new car. Best, CapeCod
CA sales are slower for the Prius... when I purchased mine last week, there were 3 on the lot, and the competing Toyota dealer had 5! Look's like the "craze" is not so much any more- At least here.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(seasidetraveler @ Sep 5 2006, 01:48 PM) </div> , really? I am in LA, and whatever was on lots had $2-3K mark up (or junk accessories), and they were all sold by Sat (of the Labor Day weekend). I checked with 8 dealers, including big and small. Dealers who don't add markup/junk accessories have long waitlist, and dealers who don't take wait list add markup/junk. They are all acutely aware of the 9/30 deadline, so I don't expect any discounts until then. By the way, what colors were they (on the lot)? Were they mainly Magnetic Gray or Seaside Blue? Seems like most incoming into SoCal are Gray, Black, Blue or Silver. Not too many red or whites.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(CapeCod @ Sep 5 2006, 03:20 PM) </div> Interesting, bought mine at Boch too But I am hesitant to recommend it. No problems with my salesperson (Brit), ok negotiations. Signed preliminary purchase agreement (MSRP minus trade-in). Waited for the car only a week or so. But when I came to pick it up they added $500 to the previsously agreed on total because Prius was a high demand vehicle. I complained, they took it off. But the whole experience went from 'very good' to 'below average'. Why do they do these things? Regards, Lev
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(lev @ Sep 11 2006, 10:36 AM) </div> I am in MA also, N. Shore, so I used my Toyota up here, I heard other stories about BOCH... I hope you notified the AG's Office about this tactic.
