I got my black Prius (package #4) after only waiting for 3 weeks! I started driving to Jersey City, NJ from Ann Arbor, MI, the day after I brought it home. Owning the car for 4 days and driving it 1300 miles was GREAT! I just got back from the trip today. The car was VERY smooth and easy to drive. This is my first car and I didn't have that much driving experience before. The brakes are amazing and the touch screen is very attractive. I avoided an accident because of the very sensitive brakes of this car! People drive in Jersey City like maniacs! A stranger asked a bunch of questions about the car at a gas station. Unfortunately, he asked my friend who was standing next to the car, and I was away for a bit. I missed a chance to show off my new baby!

Clemens and really enjoyed the vehicle. The mpg was great. As I glided into one gas station in North Dakota, the guy at the next pump was dumbfounded how quiet and effortless the car seemed to be. The only problem I have is finding a good way to get all the squashed bugs off the front of the car. Steve
Congratulations! What a great way to familiarize yourself with the car. Within a month of purchasing mine (also black!) my best friend and I made a roadtrip from Orange County, CA to San Jose/San Francisco and I was impressed with the handling (not to mention the miles per gallon!) of the Prius. It's the perfect car for an economically-minded roadtrip!!
I took mine for a last minute adventure to San Francisco on Sunday- it did very well, got great mileage, and I really appreciated the rearview camera when parking there. I cannot believe how many Prius' I saw there though, I am tempted to say that there were more per capita than LA! I now have just under 1000 miles (in less than a week). A prius as your first car? THAT is awesome!
I'm shopping now for a Prius and have a trip coming up; I was bummed because I knew even if I got the Prius by then, it wouldn't be broken in. Isn't it hard on it to go on a long trip before the break-in period is up?
It never stopped me! My '05 had 39k miles in 1.5 years, and it didn't miss a beat. I actually don't believe in completely babying a car during that period, I believe that you should drive it the way you normally would, that way it can really get broken in.

I really enjoyed driving it and it glides on the freeway at 65mph. Me and my friends were quite surprised how smooth the ride is. My favorite thing to do with a Prius is to get a U-turn. Feels like we are floating on a cloud.
