I'm planning on taking ownership of a Prime Plus soon and am already thinking about aftermarket stereo upgrade possibilities. A few general questions: 1. Does the Prime Plus have an external stereo amplifier or is power coming from the deck? If there is an external amplifier, where is it located? 2. Is anyone running 1000 watts from an aftermarket amplifier? I realize the Prius has a DC converter that might be somewhat limited. 3. Is it possible to run speaker wire through the front doors or is this so difficult that using the factory speaker wire is necessary? Thank you.
I ended up doing an install so I'll go ahead and answer my own questions in case someone else has the same ones... 1. Prime Plus does not have an external amp. 2. I've been running 1000 watts for a few months now with no problems or issues. 3. I decided to just tap into the factory speaker wiring for the door speakers. Seems drilling a hole was the only other option. I haven't had any noticeable power loss with the factory gauge speaker wire. In other words, plays as loud as I can handle.
what type speakers and amp did you end up installing? I have a 2019 Prius xle and wanting to do similar upgrade?
I am currently using speakers and an amp from the Kicker Q series. Never thought about going with Kicker until they came out with the Q line.
Thanks! I got a quote today on these 2 systems Pioneer Nex-4500 $599 Kenwood DMX-9706 $580 $150 plus parts to install - not sure what the difference in the 4500 is? may be able to save some by going with the 4400 - idk...
