the wife had a 2k1 Prius and someone asked if there were any on-line information sites on the Prius and in mid December 2003 found PriusChat and lurked for a while and joined in early January 2004. Good people and Danny really deserves a round of applause for the work he's done.
I found it via Google. I first joined PriusOnline, but it wasn't terribly active, so a couple of weeks later I tried PriusChat, and have been almost as hooked on it as I am on my Prius.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Rufaro @ Sep 4 2006, 01:43 PM) </div> BRUCE.....I like that. I thought I was the only one with a name for the car. Pre-cack-is (My 5 y/o came up with that one) Doc, did you know Danny before or because of PC? Just curious. I found PC on google
I, like many others that have posted on this forum, only started to look at car forums after becoming involved with a Prius. I first saw a Prius at an agricultural show called Agfest where agricultural machinery and other goods are displayed and demonstrated. The salesman gave me a run down on the various features and I went away saying to myself, "One day I would like to own one of those." Six months later I ordered a Prius and asked where could I download an Owners Manual. I considered that the Owners Manual would be a good place to start to learn the facts about the Prius. The Toyota dealership could not help so I Googled for a manual. That is how I found Priuschat - but no manual, take note Mr Toyota! As for my devotion to the Prius, unlike any other car I have owned it was brought to my attention when my wife said to me that I was spending too much time with the car. On the spur of the moment I replied, "Well it is my new hobby so why shouldn't I spend some time and money on my new love." Up until that time I had not considered a car to be the subject of a hobby but it is and I suspect that it is for many readers here.
I found Prius Chat through a Google search for Prius message board. I read the forum for a long time before finally joining. The information and people here are awesome and I need to at least read on a daily basis. Just wish I had more time and could read all the posts on all the other subforums. BP my vehicle was a means of getting from point a to point b and all I cared was that it do that reliably. Now I am obsessed with both my car and this board.
Google- while researching the car prior to purchase. Best source for information that I found while contemplating the purchase. Great decision on the car and the site.
I too was active on the Y! boards back before I bought my '02. It's how I found out about Dianne @ Carson Toyota. I fell off for a while due to lack of time once I had my '02 for a few months, but became much more active when I (and other pioneer buyers) placed our orders in July 2003 or so for the first 2004's to hit the shores come Oct 2003. It was during that waiting period that Y! becaome too disorganized (I was a moderator at one point, but gave up on it all together) so I hopped onto PriusChat. Except for the first month or so, I've paid little or no attention to the Y! boards. Also on Y!, there were two boards - one had an MIA moderator, so a second group was formed where the moderators were a bit more active. This helped control the spam and OT posts. I too appreciate the formation of PriusChat as, through it's own evolution, it's been a much better forum for discussion due to the large community and better organization. As for before Prius, I was a member of local "enthusiast groups" as well as other Y! boards relating to my prior cars (Ford Contour SVT and Ford Probe), so being part of online groups was nothing new.
I saw a Prius on a dealer's lot next to a Honda dealer and checked it out. I fell in love with the Prius! Went to work the next day and posted on the electronic bulletin board asking if anyone owned a Prius and could they tell me what they liked/disliked about it. There were 2 people that were Prius owners both very satisfied and nary a word of displeasure. One told me about this website and I've been here ever since. Still saving for my rainy day, the day when I will own a Prius of my own. My kids say I am obsessed! Whatever! I love this car!
I'm not entirely sure. I know I joined shortly after I got my Prius, but I knew about the site before that. It was either Google, or on one of the Yahoo groups.
I am a newer member who joined in June of this year. I think I also Googled but I don't really remember. I probably was just searching for info about the Prius. The first car I bought on my own was a new, red 1971 stripped Corolla. AM radio, four-speed, nothing else. It was so much of a tin can that when the wipers were on fast speed you could feel them in the pedals. But I loved that car; it was mine! I heard about the Prius in 1999 and had to have one. I was one of the first in this area to get the '01 and now my '04. PriusChat has rekindled my love of driving and owning a car. I have owned far too many cars in the last 35 years but the Prius is the most enjoyable and the most interesting. I take much better care of this car since I joined PriusChat and I love reading all the fun mods people make. Thanks Danny, Doc, and all others for making PriusChat too much of an obsession for me!

Definately a google search, and also ended up heavily influencing my decision to buy one. I started looking at cars last fall, and was really having trouble with the limited amount of information manufaturers give you on their website... a few google searches later i landed here and was simply amazed at how much more information is available than on any of the other sites i visited for other cars.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(loveit @ Sep 4 2006, 10:39 PM) </div> My wife and son tell me that I am obsessed also. It's a Prius thang. They wouldn't understand. I have had my car since July and love it! Get your hands on one ASAP!
Well, after test driving a Prius, my hubby and I decided that we HAD to have one of these fine automobiles. So we "ordered" one. Now, keep in mind, this is the first time we didn't just research our car, find a dealer that had what we wanted, walk in, sign the papers and off we went. Huh uh... we had to wait a few weeks for this baby. But in that time, I was really researching the Prius. After I learned something new, I would rush back to my hubby and tell him what new nugget of info I had found. Eventually, he had said, "You're getting too excited. Next thing you know, you'll be joing a Prius Cult, and you and the car will never be seen or heard from again." So, I Googled "Prius cult" and lo and behold.. one of the links about halfway down led me to Priuschat. And it's been a happy marriage ever since. I learn, laugh and look forward to reading what you fine folks have to say each day. And my hubby has even started asking me, "So, what else can we buy for the Prius?" I think I've got him hooked!
so, if everyone's calling it a cult, who's bringing the grape kool-aid to the next PC get together?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(PriusRos @ Sep 4 2006, 08:41 AM) </div> An old friend with whom I worked several years ago happened by the coffee shop where I was reading the Prius sales literature. He had a Prius and told me about this forum. I have been an Alfa Romeo owner and enthusiast since 1971, have belonged to several Alfa Romeo local and national clubs since then, and various on-line forums since the middle 1990s. Godfrey
A Google search for California HOV lane access stickers brought up this site and figured what the heck.
