LSC-40E Engine Compartment Seal Replacement

    I'd hear rumors...here first actually, about a seal replacement 'recall' I got the official letter today:

    LSC 40E - Early 2004 Toyota Prius Engine Compartment Seal

    Letter Summary:
    Certain early production 2004 Prius rain or carwash water can seem into the engine compartment at the top of the cowl. If it does it can cause a decreased engine perfomance and trigger a MIL and the ECM will put the vehicle into a "limp-home" mode. (kinda sounds like what happened to me in my 10,900 mile trouble thread)

    Basicly if you take the car in before July 31, 2007 they'll install a waterproof seal under the hood.

    If one were to be getting a car within a few weeks of now, would that car have this problem and have to go in for the recall, or would it already be fixed?

    The letter says "Early" 2004s...I suspect that means Pioneer release and maybe a little after. Looks like the letters just started hitting today, if you don't get one in the next few days and got your car after the beginning of the year you probably don't need it.

    well i called my dealer and he is gone for the day but the guy who was still there says that my car shouldnt be affected although he couldnt give me a cutoff date for cars that would need the repair and he said that corporate handles recalls so they would have no info on that either. my car was made in april.

    As always, in these matters, it is best to call "Toyota Customer Experience Center" at 888-270-9371 with your VIN and ask them if you need the LSC 40E They will know, your dealer will not.

    Evan - Got mine today also. Just had the 40D done a day or so ago.

    Just called the help center and they actually have not updated their computers yet so as to identify which VIN/vehicles are subject to the recall. They recommend calling towards the end of the week.
    Actually am scheduled to have 40D fixed on Thursday so maybe (positive karma) I can get it done at that time.

    ok so this is a fairly recently discovered event it sounds like. then mine will probably be one of the ones included.

    but will call on friday just to make sure.

    ok i called them and this update is only needed on cars built from August 1 to Oct 31, 2003.
