I know you have issues with my approach and that's okay. I took all your posts in and respect your POV.

To clarify - I assume I'm doing something right because it was an ad hominem attack and most people do that out of insecurity. I'm assuming the Honda Driver did that because he was envious of my Prius and my safe driving. I take it as a badge of honor because I'm doing the right thing and historically people that stand for what is right come under scrutiny. Yes, flipping someone is boorish behavior.

around here, honda, volvo and vdumb drivers are the worst for tailgating, horn blowing, swearing and weaving back and forth behind you if you drive the speed limit.
i just figure they're perpetually late

What size tires? I got 15s" and drive pass a pair of "Your Speed" radar detection thingies on a daily basis and my MPH dash is always 1 mph slower than what they tagged me going. My dash reads 55mph but CHP radar readout has me at 54mph. Sounds like YMMV.

YMMV bisco, but just about everywhere and everyone does if you just go the speed limit...and I've lived in way to many places.

some are worse than others. when did the speed limit become ameaningless?

i see towns putting up more and more solar warning signs and painted road warnings, but little to no enforcement. kind of a mixed message.

    Exactly what I get.

The "Your Speed" sign and also various phone apps have me one mph under speedo reading.

In the many years since I’ve been driving, people have always exceeded the speed limit. Speed limits have historically been set at the 80th percentile speed, which means that 20% of drivers were exceeding the speed that was chosen for the limit.

That's probably a YMMV situation, depending on the police force. Sure hasn't been my experience.

I've known many officers in my years and the topic of speeding has often come up. Mostly, I've heard this saying: "Motorist take five over the speed limit, we give them five after that, and we ticket at 11."

Also, in the state where I live, 20 MPH over any speed limit is per se reckless driving, which is no longer a traffic offense, but rather a misdemeanor criminal charge. That gets enforced big time.

If you aren’t speeding, then you aren’t getting tickets and I think it may be difficult to judge who is getting tickets. You only see the traffic stops in your limited field of view on the road.

The stop sign by my house is a joke. Cars blast through it all the time. At best you'll see a "California roll". Also, I respect your approach to driving. You are sensible and asset to the roads.

Humble brag here but I have a clean driving record, zero accidents and I've become a decent hyper miler. I honestly wish that Honda Civic driver pulled into the Food Co-op parking lot. I'd rather have a conversation about my hybrid car and what hypermiling is than just have a near road rage incident. I think with a little better understanding we would have actually been friends. I'm just going to assume that driver is ignorant to what Prius drivers are trying to accomplish. Maybe I need bumper sticker that says "Please be patient, I'm saving the planet"

I don't think the driver behind you cares why you are going slow and impeding traffic flow. He/she is pissed regardless. Trying to justify it with a bumper sticker will only annoy them more. You are impeding the normal flow of traffic and that is what they see. And then to try to justify it with the "saving the planet" line?

    Umm, no. Not happening.

I had my Prime up in Northern Wisconsin last month, pretty much pickup country on the back roads. I pulled into a country store /gas station for a drink and rest stop. A guy In a pickup was eyeballing me and as I was starting the car up he came over. He noticed the "Plug in Hybrid" badge in the front quarter panel and asked me how I liked the car. Was particularly interested in the EV range and how it charged. We had a nice chat for about 10 mins and I told what I liked and didn't like about the car. He said he could get interested in one.

Had he pulled in behind me after being stuck being me for 10 miles I doubt we would have had the same conversation.

It's fun driving well past midnight because you can get great fuel economy and even drive below the speed limit. There are times I've accelerated from 0 to over 50 mph starting with a nearly full battery all without having the ice turn on. I think I made it about 1.5 miles all on ev power once before my battery got to 3 bars and I increased the throttle to turn on the ice because I didn't want to be below 3 bars.
During the day I will accelerate at the very end of the eco bar not getting into the power bar. I will usually get to the speed limit or 5 mph above the speed limit.
The only time I'll go below the speed limit for a sustained period of time is when I'm going up a very steep hill. I figure if they don't expect an 18 wheeler carrying a heavy load to go up a steep hill 10 mph above the speed limit, then they shouldn't expect it from a Prius either.
